JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB

We are looking for a hands-on leader who thrives in a dynamic environment and is excited to build, modernize, and scale enterprise data capabilities. The Manager of Data Engineering is a hands-on leader responsible for the design, development, and operation of Starkey’s IT data engineering platform, including data integration, transformation, and movement across cloud and on-premise systems. This role also owns the stability, performance, and ongoing support of the core data warehouse. You will lead a small team of developers and data engineers while partnering closely with source system and analytics teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and accessible data solutions across Starkey’s global operations in a 24/7 environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS

• This role is expected to operate as approximately 60% hand-on technical leadership, 20% people management, and 20% business/analytics liaison.

• Own the stability, performance, and ongoing support of the core data warehouse
• Own and modernize SSIS-based data pipelines, ensuring reliability, scalability, and maintainability across enterprise workloads
• Design and implement Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines to support cloud-first data integration and migration strategies
• Architect and support Operational Data Stores (ODS) to enable near real-time data availability for downstream reporting and operational use cases
• Identify opportunities to streamline ODS and integration layers to reduce complexity and improve performance
• Design and maintain system-to-system integrations across ERP, operational platforms, and cloud services, ensuring data consistency and reliability
• Drive standardization of ETL/ELT patterns across SSIS and ADF to support hybrid (on-prem + Azure) data architecture
• Lead transition from legacy SSIS workloads to cloud-native data integration patterns in Azure where appropriate
• Support the transition of Starkey’s core data warehouse
• Together with the Enterprise Analytics team, develop and execute a roadmap transitioning from traditional warehousing to a hybrid architecture with a data warehouse, data lake(s), and SaaS data services
• Ensure data pipeline monitoring, alerting, and failure recovery mechanisms are in place across SSIS, ADF, and other integration pipelines.
• Provide architectural and design guidance to data consumers, acting as a business analyst partner to gather, clarify, and translate business requirements into scalable data solutions
• Manage the team’s interaction with internal customers and servicing of work requests and incidents

• Ensure follow-up with customers to certify that the resolution of problems maintains customer satisfaction.
• Lead the establishment and maintenance of KPIs for team performance and service delivery

• Maintain expertise and vendor relationships in our primary data tools
• Research and evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements
• Mentor and coach peers on new technologies

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education * * Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience required. Experience

• * 7+ years’ experience as a Data Engineer, ETL Developer, Data Architect, or Database Administrator.
• 4+ years’ experience specifically with ETL and data warehousing.
• 4+ years’ experience in a manager or technical leadership role.

Knowledge / Technical Requirements

• Knowledge and technical skills in ETL techniques and tooling (SSIS, SQL, ADF)
• Strong knowledge of databases and performance monitoring/management tools
• Expertise in data warehousing techniques, design, and best practices
• Knowledge of data lake/lakehouse concepts
• Experience with cloud data platforms

WORK CONTEXT

Working Conditions * Standard office environment. This position participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation. The rotation schedule varies based on team size Salary and Other Compensation: The target pay rate for this position is between $121,660 – $147,000 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include: geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is eligible for a bonus based upon performance results. There is no guarantee of payout.
