Field Technician I-Civil/Electrical

Job Summary/Objective Supports civil and electrical infrastructure construction through safe, hands-on field work. This position is intended for individuals with civil construction experience who are interested in developing electrical skills, as well as candidates with entry-level electrical training or experience who are comfortable performing excavation, conduit, grounding, equipment-setting, and site-restoration activities. Works under the direction of qualified supervision and performs only tasks authorized by company policy and applicable licensing requirements. Works under the direction of qualified supervision and performs only tasks authorized by company policy and applicable licensing requirements. Primary Responsibilities Operates or assists with construction, excavation, and hauling equipment, including backhoes, skid steers, mini-excavators, gradalls, asphalt rollers, and dump trucks; training is provided as needed. Performs or supports excavation, trenching, grading, subgrade preparation, concrete or equipment-pad preparation, backfill, compaction, bollard installation, and site restoration. Installs or assists with underground raceway systems, including conduit, sweeps, fittings, spacers, warning tape, pull rope, handholes, vaults, and junction boxes in accordance with project drawings and direction. Assists qualified electrical personnel with grounding and bonding, cable handling and pulling, equipment placement, labeling, terminations, testing, commissioning support, and other electrical installation activities within the employee's training and authorization. Reads and follows basic civil and electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, conduit schedules, details, specifications, redlines, and work instructions. Identifies field conflicts, differing site conditions, damaged materials, and potential safety or quality concerns and promptly reports them to the supervisor. Uses hand tools, power tools, ladders, compactors, measuring devices, and other common construction equipment safely and correctly. Loads, stocks, secures, and organizes trucks, trailers, materials, and equipment to maintain daily jobsite readiness. Completes daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks and reports deficiencies before use. Completes required project and company documentation accurately, including timesheets, truck reports, expense reports, material records, photographs, daily reports, and redline information. Follows company safety policies, job hazard analyses, utility-locate requirements, excavation and trench-safety practices, lockout/tagout requirements when applicable, and site-specific procedures. Supports the crew in meeting quality, production, schedule, and customer-service expectations across civil, electrical, EV charging, telecom, utility, and related infrastructure projects. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Education And Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Prior civil construction, underground utility, sitework, concrete, equipment-operation, telecom, or electrical experience; relevant trade-school or apprenticeship coursework may substitute for some field experience. Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements. Preferred And Additional Eligibility Qualifications Electrical trade-school coursework, registered apprenticeship participation, electrical helper experience, or demonstrated interest in pursuing an electrical career path. Experience installing underground conduit, handholes, grounding systems, concrete pads, or equipment foundations. OSHA 10 certification, or willingness to obtain it. Competent-person, excavation/trenching, first-aid/CPR, CDL, equipment-operation, or similar construction certifications are a plus. Ability and willingness to travel and work occasional overtime, nights, or weekends based on project needs. Skills Required Strong safety awareness and willingness to stop work and ask questions when conditions or instructions are unclear. Basic ability to read measurements and follow civil and electrical drawings, plans, specifications, and written work instructions. Mechanical aptitude and interest in learning electrical theory, conduit systems, grounding and bonding, wiring methods, and installation-quality expectations. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a field crew and to communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers. Care with tools, materials, equipment, documentation, and completed work. Reliability, punctuality, adaptability, and a consistent commitment to quality and professional conduct. Direct/Indirect Supervisory Responsibility None. This position works under field supervision and does not independently direct electrical work unless specifically authorized and qualified. Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel Required Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and active construction environments, except when conditions are unsafe. Frequent lifting, carrying, digging, bending, kneeling, climbing, standing, and walking on uneven surfaces; must be able to safely perform the essential physical functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to use required personal protective equipment and work around construction equipment, vehicle traffic, excavations, and existing utilities. Travel may be required up to 50% of the time depending on project needs.
