Job Profile Summary This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. In addition, it focuses on performing Clinical Nurse duties including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care needs of a designated group of patients and providing identified clinical support tasks within the scope of practice. The role requires a nursing license and may direct the work of lower-level professionals or manage processes and programs, spending the majority of time overseeing the design, implementation, or delivery of processes, programs, and policies using specialized knowledge typically acquired through advanced education. Job Overview Under the direction of the Clinical Nursing Director, the Clinical Resource Nurse Specialist (CRN‑S) upholds and drives the standard of practice within the medical center, fosters a culture of support and safety through rounding, debriefing, education, and responses to consults and medical emergencies. The CRN‑S is autonomous and serves as a general resource throughout all adult nursing departments and shifts, reviewing the work of lower-level professionals, resolving complex problems, and guiding priorities for patient care. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN). Registered Nurse (RN) license. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Three (3) years of experience in critical care nursing. Certifications such as ACLS, PALS relevant to the department and type of care may be required. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in a health‑related field. Specialty nursing certifications. Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrates clinical expertise and integrates nursing theory and practice. Interacts with staff nurses to assess the care provided and nurses' capabilities in changing circumstances. Uses clinical skills to provide ongoing assessment and evaluation of nursing care. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients' needs are met and hospital policy is followed. Analyzes early warning score report and evaluates patients accordingly. Collaborates with members of the health care team related to patient plan of care. Responds to hospital‑wide medical emergencies and demonstrates ability to practice in a variety of patient care areas and settings. Assists in care of high‑acuity patients (e.g., travel assistance, moderate sedation, lab draws/IV placements, nasogastric tube placements, ABGs). Manages the critically ill unstable patient on the general floor and assists in transfer to a higher level of care. Develops, maintains, and communicates updated nursing policies. Utilizes the nursing process for the delivery and management of patient care across the continuum appropriate to the developmental age of the patient population. Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and the ability to function well under stressful situations. Provides and facilitates peer feedback to advance nurses, Clinical Care Technicians (CCTs), and Unit Coordinators (UCs). Supports ongoing development of staff through coaching, mentoring, and role modeling. Facilitates learning using techniques such as simulation, case studies, and debriefing. Collaborates with other leadership team members to provide appropriate educational opportunities for licensed and unlicensed personnel. Provides in‑services/educational opportunities such as new equipment super‑user training, therapies, information systems, evidence‑based practice, quality, safety, and regulatory readiness. Provides real‑time bedside demonstration and fosters just‑in‑time education. Supports orientation and acclimation of new staff. Collaborates with unit leadership for staff development feedback, needs assessment, and planning. Communicates and consistently supports the philosophy and goals of the medical center. Supports professional governance. Guides and mentors staff in career development and advancement. Enhances own professional growth through educational programs, literature updates, in‑service meetings, and workshops. In collaboration with the interdisciplinary team: ensures excellence in outcomes for quality, safety, and regulatory requirements; participates in patient safety issue identification and highlights to Nursing Leadership; leads debriefing for medical emergencies and events; advises on data collection methods for quality indicators and seeks opportunities to enhance patient outcomes. Physical Requirements Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking. Lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Regular exposure to risk of blood‑borne diseases. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Exposure to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency and crisis situations. Skills & Abilities Clinical reasoning, including decision‑making, critical thinking, and a global grasp of the situation, coupled with nursing skills acquired through formal and experiential knowledge. Ability to facilitate patient, family, and staff learning across the care continuum; contributes to a learning environment of safe discourse, mentoring, and team development. Demonstrated leadership ability; works effectively under stressful situations and communicates orally and in writing. Effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team. Excellence in demonstrating knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients. Flexibility, organization, and ability to function well under stressful situations.
