Head Attendance Clerk - Mountain View High School

$17.78 per hour

Head Attendance Clerk - Mountain View High School Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours per week) Base Hourly: $17.78 Class/Calendar: A13, 9.75 months Benefits: Sick leave, holidays, retirement matched through the Arizona State Retirement System, health and life insurance Performance Pay: Available annually 1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum. 1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position. Starting Date: To Be Determined Job Summary: To record and maintain daily senior high school student attendance records to provide reliable data for district, state, and federal reporting purposes. Key Responsibilities Compile and maintain master list of all registered students to utilize in keeping daily attendance records Confer with students on attendance and tardies Record, collect and post attendance on computerized system; correct daily reports Direct and receive telephone calls to and from parents regarding student absences, appointments, books, etc. Operate computerized parent notification system Establish and maintain an accurate attendance file on each student Confer with administrators on student attendance, excessive absences, etc.; prepare attendance correspondence Compile and distribute a daily list of excused and unexcused absences to teachers and administrators Maintain lists of students out of class for authorized school activities Maintain daily check‑out log of all students leaving campus Work cooperatively with school nurse and students and other personnel assigned to attendance office Post yearly attendance data on permanent records Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities Submit year‑end attendance report; assist registrar when needed Assist with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools Required Qualifications High School education or equivalent Experience in attendance record keeping preferred; knowledge of school policies helpful Minimum one year clerical experience; ability to operate general office equipment Preferred Qualifications Experience with district based database SASI/GENESIS Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate Demonstrates commitment to the MPS Promise that every student is known by name, served by strength and need, and graduates ready for college, career and community Ability to utilize Phonemaster; operate scanner and interpret results Moderate proficiency in typing with good accuracy; above average test battery Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, etc) Ability to organize, to prioritize and to meet deadlines with an accurate attention to detail while working with frequent interruptions and minimum supervision Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) with students, teachers, parents, district personnel and general public; to be tactful and diplomatic at all times; to maintain confidentiality Skills & Competencies Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate Demonstrates commitment to the MPS Promise that every student is known by name, served by strength and need, and graduates ready for college, career and community Ability to utilize Phonemaster; operate scanner and interpret results Moderate proficiency in typing with good accuracy; above average test battery Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, etc) Ability to organize, to prioritize and to meet deadlines with an accurate attention to detail while working with frequent interruptions and minimum supervision Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) with students, teachers, parents, district personnel and general public; to be tactful and diplomatic at all times; to maintain confidentiality Work Environment & Physical Requirements Most of the work is done in a school’s administrative office, typically in a well‑lit, temperature‑controlled space Often follows regular school hours, but early arrival or staying after school may be required to handle attendance reports or meetings Regular interaction with students, parents, teachers, and administrators—both in person and via phone or email Fast‑Paced at Times: Especially during morning hours when attendance is being taken, or during enrollment/withdrawal periods Daily use of computers, attendance software (like PowerSchool or Aeries), copiers, and fax machines Sitting for extended periods at a desk, typing and looking at a computer screen Occasionally lifting boxes of records or office supplies (usually under 25 lbs) Equal Opportunity Employer Statement Mesa Public Schools is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws regarding equal employment opportunity and anti‑discrimination.
