Engineering Manager

Eaton’s IS AER ITD Aerospace division is currently seeking a Engineering Manager. The expected annual salary range for this role is $149,000 - $219,000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. What You’ll Do PRIMARY FUNCTION The product design engineering manager leads a team of product design engineers responsible for internal research and development, new product development (NPD/NPI), sustaining engineering for ongoing production, manufacturing sourcing changes, cost-out projects, and new business campaigns. The manager handles project engineering work from initial scoping through execution and closure, communicating on this work to internal and external stakeholders. They coordinate all work within the scope of assigned projects, managing engineering scope change, risks, and issues alongside program managers. This role includes functional management activities such as hiring, performance management, and talent development. The engineering manager is responsible for mechanical hold‑down/release mechanism devices for aviation, military, and space applications, as well as supporting plant sustaining engineering for electrical connector product lines. Essential Functions Leads teams supporting current design and development or legacy/sustaining product support for hold‑down and release mechanism products and related components used in aviation, space, industrial, and military applications. Leads engineers assigned to global, cross‑functional teams and multiple manufacturing locations to support ongoing production, new product launches, and product manufacturing transfers/sourcing across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC. Manages teams responsible for or directly leads communication with customer engineering teams. Manages teams responsible for product design and documentation captured through Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), leveraging Eaton’s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. Manages teams that provide or directly lead technical reviews with internal and external stakeholders. Manages teams that provide or directly provide technical support to customers, suppliers, internal manufacturing engineers, and internal sales and marketing teams. This includes responsibilities for new and existing projects, assessing non-recurring cost estimates (NRE) and managing project scope changes, developing engineering‑specific activity schedules, developing engineering standards, and reviewing/approving technical documents and deliverables. Leads teams responsible for the planning and specification of new product requirements, as well as detailed validation and verification plans working alongside a cross‑functional team. Leads teams responsible for witnessing testing of products and managing test program communication within and external to the enterprise. Leads Eaton’s prototype and tooling manufacturing lab, ensuring on‑time delivery and quality of deliverables. Leads teams responsible for failure analysis including 8D (8 disciplines problem solving) and provides guidance on root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities. Leads teams responsible for MRB review of discrepant hardware and assessment of functionality where appropriate/delegated by customers. Leads teams and sets standards for the creation and management of product data in Eaton’s PLM (Enovia). Responsible for supporting the assessment of jurisdiction and classification of hardware and technical data in accordance with the ITAR and EAR. Responsible for talent management for the team including promotions, performance management, hiring, and coaching. Supports ongoing sustaining engineering for electrical connector products when required. Qualifications Required Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a similar engineering field from an ABET‑accredited institution. Minimum seven years of product engineering experience. Minimum three years of engineering management experience. Demonstrated knowledge/proficiency in talent management including hiring and development of direct reports. Leadership experience, including delegation and coaching of direct reports. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or Business Administration. More than five years of experience in engineering management. Design knowledge of interconnect components (connectors, backshells/accessories, wiring assemblies) for aviation, aerospace, and industrial markets. Experience with metallic plating/coatings and non‑metallic materials including polymers, ceramics, glass, and graphite composites. Experience using Enovia PLM software and SolidWorks CAD software. Experience directing product launches in Best Cost Country (BCC) locations in North America. Experience directing product launches in U.S. manufacturing locations for military and/or aerospace products. Certifications: Lean Six‑Sigma (including DFSS/SSDD Green Belt or Black Belt) or Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred. Experience leading product qualification programs for mechanical and/or electrical products. Ability to interpret and generate 3D CAD models and drawings. Knowledge of ECN/ECO processes for document change management. Ability to complete basic engineering calculations for sizing and design of mechanical components. Understanding of ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Proficiency in Product Data Management or Product Life‑Cycle Management (PDM/PLM) systems for document control and workflow management. Expertise in leading teams through management of requirements and developing compliance strategy. Additional Information Strong record of leading teams to success on complex engineering programs with customer technical teams. Excellent internal (within business) and external (customers, vendors) communication skills on technical and non‑technical subjects. Negotiates customer requirements and compliance methods, aligning intracompany teams around a clearly scoped mission. Proficiency in establishing collaborative and trusting working relationships within and outside the enterprise; builds credibility with others. Ability to break down complex problems into manageable pieces and lead teams through execution of related project work. Excellent talent management and recruiting skills; able to find, hire, and deploy the best talent for the organization.
