Job Overview This Field Wildlife Biologist role involves conducting biological surveys, preparing reports, and monitoring construction activities to ensure regulatory compliance. The position requires strong field-based decision‑making, communication skills, and proficiency with tools like ArcGIS and GPS for mapping biological resources. Job Type: Part‑Time/Temporary (temporary position; no benefits, but eligible for paid time off in accordance with our sick time policy) Pay: $35 – $50 per hour (based on training, duties, and project type) Schedule: As‑needed position with a flexible schedule; no guaranteed minimum hours. Location: Ideal candidates should be based in or near Victorville, Barstow, Palmdale, or Lancaster, as well as in the northern and eastern regions of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, or Riverside. Responsibilities Perform biological surveys, prepare reports, track data, analyze information, and conduct construction monitoring. Make in‑field decision‑making and communicate findings orally and in writing. Conduct general and focused biological resource surveys, nest surveys, habitat restoration monitoring, web‑based reporting, and use ArcGIS GPS equipment for mapping identified biological resources. Maintain confidentiality at all times. Exercise safe work practices by following all company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including required safety training. Participate in continuous improvement programs and support team efforts. Stay current on industry trends through formal training, professional publications, and workshops. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications BS in biology, ecology, wetland science, plant ecology, or a related field. Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. 1–6 years of professional experience in biological surveys, construction monitoring, or similar field work. Experience with Southern and/or Central California biological resources; preferred strengths include botany, wildlife biology, and/or wetland ecology. Basic understanding of FESA, CESA, CEQA, and NEPA. Experience and training with ArcGIS and GPS technologies for large‑scale biological resource inventories and conservation planning. Preferred professional experience with species such as desert tortoise, Arroyo toad, red‑legged frog, burrowing owl, coastal California gnatcatcher, Bell’s vireo, desert kit fox, Mojave ground squirrel, San Bernardino kangaroo rat, and other special‑status species in Southern and Central California. Preferred experience on Catalina Island and Coastal Zone. Preferred experience with nest monitoring, construction monitoring, compliance, or habitat restoration. Preferred current/previous USFWS 10(a)(1)(A) Permit and current/previous CDFW Scientific Collecting Permits. Ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines. Ability to work remotely and independently with minimal supervision. Flexibility to adapt to changing directives and deadlines. Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Google Suite, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and related software. Ability to maintain HAZWOPER certification, completing the 40‑hour environmental health and safety class and annual refresher. Strong problem‑solving and data‑analysis skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Physical ability to canvass large project areas on foot over varied terrain and in inclement weather. Travel may be required as needed. Outdoor work with exposure to sun, rain, snow, wind, and other weather. Environments with uneven ground, standing water, dusty conditions, moving equipment, and personal protective equipment stress. Potential overnight shifts. Exposure to chemical, biological, or physical hazards.

OCCASIONAL

Driving noncommercial vehicles. Shifts up to 24 hours in duration. Wearing personal protective equipment for HAZWOPER sites as required. Wearing partially or fully encapsulating PPE.
