Accounting Supervisor

Job SummaryThe Accounting supervisor is responsible for ensuring adherence to policies, procedures and controls for the recording of financial transactions and the reporting of financial operations. They play an essential role in the month end close and are considered the primary reviewer of journal entries and account reconciliations. Additionally, there is an expectation of effective and open communication throughout the organization to enhance teamwork. The Accounting Supervisor is tasked with preparing analysis of operating results as requested, participating in continuous improvement teams and contributing to the process of hiring, training and developing employees as needed.Essential Functions• Involved in developing and identifying process improvements. • Supervise, direct and review the work of accounting staff.• Enforce policies and procedures.• Employ effective team building skills.• Implement customer service standards.• Apply a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.• Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close.• Monitor and analyze accounting processes and recommends new ideas to develop and implement more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.• Prepare, review and analyze journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations.• Prepare, review and analyze various department and interdepartmental work papers and schedules.• Effectively communicate with other departments to verify transaction data and resolve issues.• Enforce accounting regulations.• Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential.• Participate in educational opportunities.Critical Competencies• Accountability - Takes responsibility for individual and team actions, decisions, and results; ensures timely, high-quality task completion; is dependable and transparent.• Analytical Thinking - Ability to break down complex problems, situations, in order to understand underlying patterns, identify key issues; examine information logically, question assumptions, and draw conclusions based on evidence. • Drives Results & Ensures Accountability - Drives for aggressive goals with a strong sense of urgency, even under tough circumstances, holding the organization to high standards and maintaining a keen focus on activities that will have a direct impact on business results.
