The Lead Diesel Mechanic performs complex repairs and maintenance on gas and diesel vehicles and equipment with minimal supervision. This role requires strong metal fabrication skills, proficiency in welding, and a thorough understanding of vehicle systems to ensure safe and efficient vehicle operation. The position involves leading a small to medium-sized team and emphasizes quality workmanship, safety, and excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Perform vehicle repair, maintenance, and inspection for gas and diesel vehicles
• Conduct metal fabrication, including welding in flat, vertical, and overhead positions
• Operate welding and grinding equipment safely and effectively
• Diagnose mechanical problems using diagnostic equipment and perform necessary repairs
• Prepare vehicles to meet legal and safety standards
• Maintain accurate records and reports of work performed
• Ensure all work meets or exceeds company quality standards
• Work collaboratively with team members and provide excellent customer service
• Enforce and comply with safety policies and procedures
• Lead and support a team of 2-10 members, depending on project needs

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years experience in diesel vehicle maintenance

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical certification in diesel mechanics
• Experience with diesel engine repair
• Skills in metal fabrication and welding (acetylene and electric arc)
• Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment
• Knowledge of electrical and hydraulic vehicle systems
• Experience in preventative maintenance and mechanical design
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Understanding of safety procedures in vehicle repair and maintenance
