Position Overview We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Board Certified or Residency Trained Medical Oncologist to join our team in Santa Cruz, California. The ideal candidate will provide high‑quality veterinary care, communicate effectively with clients, and collaborate closely with surgeons, internal medicine, and emergency clinical care teams. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups. Communicate and educate clients. Maintain accurate medical records and documentation. Prescribe medications and follow controlled substance protocols. Promote teamwork and staff efficiency. Collaborate with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations. Evaluate and monitor daily hospital protocols from intake to discharge. Attend daily rounds to uphold the highest care standards. Participate in practice‑management updates and trainings at all levels. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications (Required) Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university. One‑year rotational internship in small animal medicine, surgery, or emergency/critical care. Completed a three‑year, AVMA‑approved residency program. Current state veterinary license. DEA registration obtained and maintained. Strong diagnostic and clinical skills. Team‑oriented work style. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Commitment to compassionate, high‑quality veterinary care. Ability to elicit information, establish rapport, and provide clear explanations to pet owners. Confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or painful pets. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform moderately physically demanding tasks. Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Board certification. 2–5 years of post‑residency experience. Demonstrated expertise in cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other necessary examinations. Problem‑solving and solution development in a high‑quality veterinary hospital setting. Effective communication of diagnostics, therapeutic options, and internal medical interactions. Professionalism and constructive feedback skills. Business acumen for managing practice finances. Ethical decision‑making foundation.
