Electrical Superintendent
Green Tanner Industrial
1) Purpose of Role
Lead day-to-day field execution for electrical construction scopes, including electrical distribution, underground electrical, conduit and duct bank installation, cable pulling, equipment setting, terminations, grounding, lighting, and electrical systems installation. Plan and sequence work; direct crews and subcontractors; coordinate equipment, materials, and logistics; and ensure all work meets contract scope, drawings/specifications, schedule milestones, cost targets, and GTI safety/quality standards. Serve as the on-site point for issue resolution, documentation, and communication with Project Management, general contractors, electrical engineers, and the client.
2) Scope & Decision Rights
Own day-to-day electrical field plans, crew and subcontractor coordination, jobsite documentation in Procore, and adjustments for weather, supply, equipment, or resourcing—partnering with PMs for cost control and schedule adherence. Coordinate electrical installations with civil, structural, mechanical, instrumentation, and other trades to ensure proper sequencing, access, and system integration. Ensure electrical work is performed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, applicable electrical codes, and project safety and quality requirements.
3) Essential Duties and Standards
Owns:
- Daily/weekly look-ahead planning, electrical crew assignments, subcontractor coordination, and resource allocation (labor, equipment, tools, and materials).
- Jobsite safety leadership and compliance (OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and applicable electrical safety requirements); conduct JSAs, enforce lockout/tagout procedures, verify required permits, maintain housekeeping, and ensure safe work practices around energized and potentially energized equipment.
- Electrical field quality control: verification of conduit routing and installation, underground duct banks, cable tray, cable pulling, wire identification, terminations, grounding and bonding, electrical equipment installation, lighting, and electrical system testing in accordance with approved drawings and specifications.
- Electrical installation coordination, including switchgear, transformers, panelboards, motor control centers, generators, inverters, electrical distribution systems, and other project-specific electrical equipment, as applicable.
- Verification of electrical layouts, elevations, equipment locations, conduit and cable routing, clearances, equipment access, and coordination with civil and structural installations.
- Procore documentation: daily logs, photos, inspections, workforce tracking, progress updates, and RFI/submittal routing with PM/PE/Preconstruction support.
- Productivity tracking and percent-complete reporting for electrical installations; monitor labor hours, installed quantities, and production rates, and develop recovery plans when targets are missed.
- Vendor/supplier coordination for electrical equipment and material deliveries, including conduit, fittings, wire, cable, cable tray, transformers, switchgear, panels, grounding materials, and other electrical components.
- Coordination of electrical inspections, testing, commissioning readiness, and punch-list completion with the project team, inspectors, commissioning personnel, and client representatives.
- Verification that electrical installations comply with approved plans, specifications, applicable National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements, and project-specific standards.
- Field verification and maintenance of accurate electrical as-built records, including conduit routing, underground installations, cable routes, equipment locations, and field changes.
Supports:
- Project Manager with schedule updates, change events, labor productivity reporting, material procurement tracking, and cost control inputs.
- Project Engineer with electrical RFIs, submittals, equipment documentation, as-builts, testing records, and closeout documentation.
- Client/GC communication regarding electrical work sequencing, access, outages, inspections, equipment delivery, and coordination with other trades.
- Electrical engineering and design teams with field verification, constructability reviews, drawing discrepancies, and installation constraints.
- Testing and commissioning teams with system readiness, pre-functional checks, equipment startup coordination, and resolution of electrical deficiencies.
- Procurement and project management teams with long-lead electrical equipment tracking and identification of material shortages or delivery risks.
Recommends/Prepares:
- Field-driven optimizations to electrical installation sequencing, means/methods, crew utilization, prefabrication, and equipment usage to meet schedule and budget targets.
- Change documentation, including T&M tags, labor and material impacts, quantity changes, field directives, and scope deviations.
- Look-ahead adjustments and recovery plans to mitigate schedule risks associated with equipment lead times, inspections, design changes, access restrictions, and trade conflicts.
- Electrical constructability recommendations to improve installation efficiency, reduce rework, and support safe access and maintainability.
- Training/coaching plans to improve crew capability, electrical installation quality, code awareness, and safe production practices.
- Material procurement and staging strategies to ensure electrical materials and equipment are available when needed and properly stored and protected.
- Testing, inspection, and commissioning preparation plans to support timely system turnover and project closeout.
Escalates:
- Safety incidents/near misses, electrical hazards, unexpected energized conditions, failed lockout/tagout controls, and deficiencies in required electrical safety protections.
- Schedule or cost risks beyond superintendent control, including long-lead equipment delays, material shortages, labor constraints, and subcontractor performance issues.
- Contract scope conflicts, client access constraints, outage restrictions, and sequencing conflicts that threaten project milestones.
- Significant drawing/specification discrepancies, electrical code concerns, design conflicts, equipment incompatibilities, and field conditions that require engineering clarification.
- Failed inspections, testing deficiencies, equipment damage, installation defects, and issues that could affect system performance or commissioning.
- Unapproved design changes, deviations from approved electrical drawings, or work requiring engineering review before proceeding.
