IMEG is hiring a Civil Engineering Intern in Long Island, NY. Over a 10-12 week summer program, you will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, site drainage and grading designs, and learning the civil engineering trade. You will support project documentation, interdisciplinary coordination, and job site observations while working within project budgets and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. With a water and wastewater focus and work across municipal and environmental markets, this opportunity supports resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure. At a Glance Location: Long Island, NY Discipline: Civil Markets: Environmental; Municipal; Wastewater Ownership: 100% employee-owned (ESOP) Work Schedule: Full-time hybrid, 10-12 week summer program Program Length: 10-12 weeks Sponsorship: Not available What You'll Do Assist with design portions of projects related to discipline systems according to code and IMEG standards Assist with researching resources for commercially available equipment Support good client relations, the project design notebook, and documentation for permanent record files Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical and equipment suppliers Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and instructions from client promptly while monitoring project design progress Assist with review of all project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement What You'll Bring Required Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required May be required to assist with field duties such as surveying and materials testing Strong interest in design consulting Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups Preferred Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred Physical Requirements Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises About the Team New York-based civil and environmental team skewed toward municipal and wastewater work Sewer engineering, SWPPP, and community-infrastructure design across Long Island and NYC Higher-education and healthcare projects including LIU, St. Joseph's University, and Southampton Hospital Landscape architecture, planning, and environmental services in-house Recent work includes Great Neck Water Pollution Control Sewer, Government; LIU College of Science, Education; and Southampton Hospital EOR, Healthcare Why IMEG A paid internship with real, hands-on project work, not busywork A structured program with an assigned mentor and a cohort of fellow interns A clear path to full-time: many interns and co-ops convert to full-time roles at IMEG IDEA Program: a firm-wide innovation accelerator where employees across every discipline develop and scale new tools, from VR and AI to carbon-reduction technology Real impact from day one: at IMEG, an intern once became our Virtual Reality leader Exposure across disciplines and offices at a 100+ office, employee-owned firm MEG, our in-house AI platform, helps employees find information and build agents that streamline project workflows and calculations State of New York Pay Range: $22.00 – $24.00 per hour The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location. Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
