Maintenance Mechanic

Position: Maintenance Mechanic Department: Maintenance Status: Full Time Reports To: Maintenance Manager Supervises: None Position Purpose/Summary Maintains production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment through troubleshooting, repair, planned and preventive maintenance. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions. Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments. Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts. Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using appropriate hand tools. Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance. Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment. Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results. Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests. Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks. Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Monitors plant boiler chemistry and maintains normal operations. Completes daily plant walkthrough Inspection to check for normal operation of plant equipment. Assists with covering production staff positions in the event of an absence or when the crew is shorthanded. Responsible for Break and Meal relief of Lead Operator. Must be willing to perform other duties not listed in this job description. Position Requirements Industrial Maintenance Certificate or Equivalent experience Must demonstrate knowledge of previous maintenance experience Welding Skills including: arc, tig, mig and sanitary welding Ability to design, layout and fabricate Knowledge of basic electrical controls Knowledge of pumps, valves, compressors, heat exchangers, bearings and seals Forklift Certification Basic Hand and Power tools Technical Understanding Basic Electrical Understanding Good communication skills Ability to Multitask Computer literacy Must be willing to work all shifts including nights, weekends and holidays Great attention to detail While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 60 pounds. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
