High School PE Teacher and Football Coach

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

SALARY RANGE:

• Commensurate with locality, degree and certified teaching experience (to be verified)

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Promote the mental, physical, emotional and social growth of all students assigned.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Uses available instructional materials and a variety of techniques in providing opportunities for student achievement and development.
• Demonstrates knowledge and application of appropriate developmental practices for young children.
• Keeps accurate, neat records including class lists, attendance, health records, roll book, report cards, and permanent folders.
• Maintains an attractive classroom, reporting unsafe conditions when repairs are needed.
• Develops and implements proper classroom management techniques.
• Completes reports, assignments and records in a timely fashion.
• Collects lunch and/or activity monies as may be necessary.
• Plans and prepares for classes, submitting lesson plans weekly.
• Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work locations.
• Reports promptly for all assigned duties.
• Notifies the principal or designated person of impending absence.
• Supplies substitutes with adequate plans and materials.
• Maintains properly the books and equipment assigned to the class.
• Becomes knowledgeable about methods, programs, curriculum guides, procedure bulletins, and available resources in the system.
• Uses a variety of methods for diagnosis and/or placement purposes.
• Exhibits self-control and decorum for student emulation.
• Provides for individual differences.
• Continually evaluates student progress and plan with student needs in mind.
• Cooperates with school-based and central office personnel.
• Encourages parent to be informed of the student's progress and needs.
• Demonstrates evidence of professional growth, participates in inservice training and contributes to faculty meetings and/or faculty studies.
• Conforms to Louisiana laws concerning the education, health, safety and welfare of assigned students.
• Assists in the development and implementation of quality education at JSCLA.
• Plans for and actively participates in the evaluation process.
• Performs all other duties assigned by the principal.

FOOTBALL COACHING PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• • The football coach will be responsible for the development, organization and implementation of the entire football program, as well as in the provision of leadership to football personnel and student athletes.
  • Workday consists of time, after completion of the school day, necessary to adequately prepare the coach’s team for competition.
  • Also, he/she must sometimes work weekends and holidays as determined by the preparedness of his/her team.
  • The coach must maintain security of electronic and print records with regard to confidentiality of student information and passwords that are issued for access to databases.

    Scope of Responsibility:
    • Provides overall supervision of the football program within the guidelines of the LHSAA assigned district, JSCLA, LHSAA policies, rules and regulations.
    • Assigns the duties of other coaches working in football.
    • Maintains, issues, inventories and orders all new equipment.
    • Maintains all records specified by the LHSAA and JSCLA.
    • Scheduling games and relative activities pertaining to football.
    • Builds sportsmanship as well as provides good public relations in the school and community.
    • Ensures all student athletes have a current physical exam.
    • Ensures that all student athletes have adequate insurance coverage as specified by the JSCLA and the LHSAA, and that proper documentation on each student signed by the parent/legal guardian to purchase or decline extra insurance exists.
    • Keeps the principal and faculty informed of departure times for trips as well as ensures that all participants have transportation home when returning from road trips.
    • Sets the criteria for lettering and explains that criteria to all participants and parents.
    • Maintains team statistics.
    • Participates in professional development through workshops, literature, clinics and seminars.
    • Adheres to Parish and State requirements for promptly reporting rosters, schedules, scores, eligibility or documentation of incidents or injuries.
    • Cooperates, communicates and works with the school based athletic director and administrator in charge of athletics.
    • Evaluates assistant coaches that he/she supervises.
    • Performs all duties as assigned by the principal and or appropriate administrator.

  Skills and Qualifications:
  • The coach must be able to communicate in Standard English, both orally and in writing and or digitally.
  • Must have the ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication system and be able to communicate successfully and tactfully with students, parents and school personnel while following JSCLA policies.
  • The coach must accurately communicate with members of the media.
  • The coach must be able to represent the school at various functions.
  • The coach must be able to accurately compile and access data, summarize information and provide written reports to his/her supervisor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS WORKED:

• The teacher will work in a school setting, climate-controlled environment adhering to JSCLA energy policy and in the outside areas which are subject to climate extremes.
• Workday consists of duty schedule specific teacher hours at assigned school site.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

• A teacher must be able to effectively communicate English both orally and in writing.
• Must have ability to accurately give and receive information via tele-communication system and must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with students, parents, and school personnel.

EQUIPMENT USED:

• Telephone, audio-visual equipment, classroom computer, copy machine, laminator, calculator, and other appropriate machines.

PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:

• Standing, walking, reaching, bending and lifting 10 pounds is sometimes required.
• Must be able to operate classroom equipment.
• Must be able to physically transfer, restrain or position special education students as required.

MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:

• Must be able to plan and implement appropriate education programs for all students.
• Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.
• Must keep accurate, up-to-date written and verbal instructions.
• Must be able to comply with state and parish regulations.
• Must be able to utilize effective classroom management techniques.

HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT:

• Must be able to work cooperatively with students, parents, and school personnel.
• Must be able to respond positively to supervision and accept suggestions for improvement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelors Degree
• Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate and or current LHSAA requirements
• Must meet the requirements in Article 3.3 (Faculty Coaches) of the LHSAA handbook.
• Demonstrated expertise, knowledge and competency in basic football fundamentals.
• Professional knowledge of LHSAA and JSCLA rules and regulations for football.
• Expertise, knowledge and competency in conditioning of sport specific athletes.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate or be Eligible for a Practitioner's License as confirmed by a local university
• Certification in area of assignment
• Previous playing experience in football preferred (on college or university level; minimum experience on high school level).
• Previous coaching experience on the junior varsity, junior high/middle school or other recreation activity level in football.
• Expertise, knowledge and competency in first aid for the prevention and treatment of football injuries.
• Possess a CDL class B or above with a P and S endorsement free of air brake restrictions.
• Meet all requirements of the Louisiana Department of Education school bus driver component.
