Mortgage Underwriter The Mortgage Underwriter I reviews standard residential mortgage applications, evaluates borrower creditworthiness, and ensures compliance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements. Essential Responsibilities: Underwrite a limited range of mortgage loans. Primarily focused on HELOCs, fixed-rate Home Equity loans, Equity Rich fixed-rate loans and Equity Rich lines of Credits. Assisting with first mortgage refinances, purchases and construction loans as needed. Review mortgage loan applications, credit reports, financial documents, and collateral to make approval or denial decisions based on established criteria and program guidelines. Assess loan risk and request additional information when needed. Work with processors and loan officers to communicate approval conditions. Review property appraisals to confirm collateral value is properly documented. Complete all required GECU mortgage lending and Elevate U! training courses. Maintain the required NMLS designation. Perform other assigned duties.
