Cardiac Monitor Technician

Overview Description: Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital Ypsilanti, MI Employment Type: Full time Shift: Night Shift Position: Telemetry Monitor Technician (TMT) – Central Monitoring Area Night Shift Schedule: 11p-7:30a / 7p-7a. This role supports monitoring and reporting cardiac arrhythmias, observing patients remotely, and performing duties related to patient monitoring and equipment maintenance in the central station and on patient care units. Responsibilities Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms for a group of patients assigned to the Central Monitoring Area. Monitor patients via continuous tele-visual monitoring to ensure safety, including patients at risk for falls, elopement, or other safety issues identified by the nurse. Document cardiac rhythms on the Cardiac Monitor Flow Sheet and patient behaviors/interventions on the Patient Monitoring Log. Deliver rhythm strips and other patient care documentation to patient care units as needed. Collaborate with nursing leadership to prioritize/allocate monitoring resources such as telemetry and continuous visual monitoring cameras. Deliver telemetry and/or other monitoring equipment to floors; nursing staff performs monitor setup, patient preparation, and teaching related to the cardiac monitor. Disconnect, clean, and return monitors and video cameras to the Central Monitoring Area after use. Identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in resolutions. Maintain confidentiality of information pertaining to patients, physicians, employees, and visitors. Perform duties in the safest possible manner, protect personal safety and coworker safety, and report hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management. Provide quality patient care by considering age-specific, developmental, and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Additional duties as assigned by the hiring manager/supervisor. Education and Experience Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience: Must be able to read and write English at a high school level. Ability to perform arithmetic calculations to calculate cardiac intervals. Previous experience reading monitors or EKGs required. Must successfully complete a basic arrhythmia class and receive a passing score within first 30 days of employment. Must complete an arrhythmia competency test and receive a passing score during the annual CMT Blitz education. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with various health care team members. Physical Requirements Must be able to work under stressful situations, remain calm, work at a fast pace while maintaining accuracy. Must be able to sit for long periods, watch computer screens, and walk long distances. Adequate visual acuity to observe cardiac monitors for long periods and analyze monitor strips.
