Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist – CT AT Overview This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Candidates must submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Responsibilities Perform routine to moderately complex radiographic examination procedures using diagnostic x‑ray equipment, including fluoroscopic units and general diagnostic units. Conduct computerized tomography (CT) of the head, neck, spine, chest, and body, with or without contrast materials, including CT angiography, run‑offs, pulmonary embolus studies, and CT biopsies utilizing surgical sterile techniques. Prepare contrast materials for CT studies, perform quality control on the CT scanner, and record contrast warmer temperature daily. Conduct reconstructions of CT studies as requested or as part of a standard procedure. Maintain patient records and logs in the computerized information system, ensuring proper identification of patient images. Communicate exam details and potential adverse reactions to patients, ensuring they understand the procedure. Manage and inventory CT supplies, report equipment malfunctions promptly, and enter electronic work orders to Biomedical Engineering. Provide irregular‑hour emergency scans on‑call, available within 45 minutes of receipt of a call. Support diagnostic radiographic examinations as needed and stay updated on new developments in computerized tomography. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications United States Citizenship; non‑citizens only when no qualified citizens can be recruited. English proficiency in spoken and written form. Certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology – Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification required for CT, MRI, or Mammography duties performed independently; otherwise, on‑the‑job training may be provided under a certified radiologic technologist. Completion of a full‑time training course of at least 24 months (or equivalent) in a post‑high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or equivalent DOE‑recognized agency. Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist – GS‑10 experience, with at least one year of experience at GS‑9 or the next lower grade level directly related to the position. Experience creditable only if earned after basic certification requirements; graduate DRT experience creditable when functioning as a DRT and passing the certification examination. Part‑time DRT experience creditable relative to a full‑time workweek. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) in radiation protection standards, advanced imaging software, basic physics, and patient positioning for complex imaging (CT, MRI, IR, ultrasound, mammography). Preferred: DRT‑Computed Tomography Certification ARRT. Benefits Competitive salary with regular increases.
