Shipping Associate

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Shipping Associate Reports To : Shipping Supervisor

Department : Operations

Basic Function: The Shipper will ensure all outgoing shipments, regardless of ground or freight, are packaged or palletized properly; enter package/pallet weights and dimensions into Starship shipping software; schedule shipment pick-ups and perform freight quotes as needed. Ensures that THE CUSTOMER IS OUR FIRST PRIORITY and each employee must support that priority. Utilizes 2 second lean tools to drive continuous improvement. Keeps area clean and organized daily.

Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Perform shipping/freight quotes as needed per customer request.
2. Ensure all shipping documents are created and maintained accurately.
3. Ship packages on time according to approved work instructions
4. Inspect orders to ensure product-built matches customer requirements -. Ensure quality of final product.
5. Inform purchasing and inventory staff members of any material or packing supply shortages.
6. Calculate shipping charges for customer invoicing.
7. Report defective material or questionable condition to the department supervisor
8. Perform shipping functions as needed, including driving a forklift.
9. Complete all required documents for International shipments.
10. Participate in the 2 Second Lean program to support continuous improvement and cost savings.
11. Maintain high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness in the Shipping and Dock areas.
12. Maintain the work area and equipment in clean and orderly condition
13. Ensure and promote compliance to company safety guidelines as well as policies and procedures.
14. Communicate status of operation in a timely manner to management including any safety and/or process problems
15. Performs other duties as required

Qualifications and Required Skills:

• Education:
  • Required a high school diploma or equivalent experience
• Experience:
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in production/ shipping environment
  • Experience working in ERP and Shipping software preferred
• Skill, Knowledge, and Abilities: Ability to work independently.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. The position requires accuracy, common sense, and flexibility.
  • Ability to read and understand packaging lists (assembly instructions) and sales orders.
  • Proficiency in locating and identifying inventory parts by part number to complete the assembly process
  • Knowledge of computer shipping software programs, Experience working with freight and UPS/Fed ex software systems.

  • Body Positions: Requires mostly standing, but there will be the need for walking activities throughout the day to retrieve parts and lift boxes
  • Body Movements: use of hands, eyes, arms, voice, and ears
  • Carry boxes or packages up 70lbs with the possible more from time to time
• Mental
  • Reasoning ability: The ability to understand complex assembly instructions
  • Requires math skills, the ability to problem solve on a daily basis, and coordinate numerous tasks at one time
