Job Description
RN - Intensive Care Unit - Pediatrics

Job Summary: Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties:

  • Education:

    • Identifies and meets personal learning needs.
    • Attends educational programs based on these needs.
    • Uses patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
    • Assesses the readiness to learn of the patient, family, and caregivers.
    • Considers developmental levels and factors affecting the ability to learn.
  • Evaluation of Care:

    • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
    • Seeks guidance in the revision of care plans as needed.
    • Engages in discussions with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate patient care.
    • Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
  • Implementation:

    • Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems.
    • Performs bedside point of care testing as required for the patient care plan.
    • Utilizes nursing standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery.
    • Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient/family needs.
    • Consults appropriate resources in a timely manner for complex care issues.
  • Leadership:

    • Develops goals to promote professional growth, or minimizes limitations with assistance.
    • Aims to achieve goals within identified timeframes or renegotiates as needed.
    • Engages in activities that facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
    • Participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
    • Promotes cost-effective care.
    • Provides feedback to coworkers.
    • Stays informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
    • Contributes to a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
  • Patient Assessment:

    • Recognizes data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
    • Focuses on physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
    • Synthesizes assessment data before communicating to others.
    • Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of patients and families.
    • Builds relationships with families to foster advocacy for patient needs.
  • Planning:

    • Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
    • Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
    • Employs a full range of communication to convey planning information.
    • Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
    • Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks for complex problems.
  • Research:

    • Reads relevant journals containing applicable studies or articles.
    • Presents ideas and questions to the staff for applicability assessment.
Qualifications:
  • Required Skills & Experience:

    • One (1) year of nursing experience.
  • Education:

    • Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited school of Nursing is required.
    • Preferred: BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Certifications & Licensure:

    • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification is required.
