Cat Safari Manager

Pet Camp is looking for an experienced, organized, and compassionate manager to lead Cat Safari, our one-of-a-kind facility designed exclusively for cats. We are seeking an experienced cat-care professional with at least five years of full-cycle people management experience (hiring, coaching, accountability) to manage Cat Safari, our cat-only boarding facility. This is not an entry-level “I love cats” role—our ideal candidate has professional experience handling cats, understands feline health and behavior, and can independently lead operations and grow this line of business. The Cat Safari Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the facility, the performance and development of the Cat Safari team, the quality of care provided to every cat camper, and the experience of every pet parent. This is a hands‑on management position for someone who is comfortable balancing animal care, employee supervision, customer service, facility operations, safety, scheduling, financial controls, and business development. The Cat Safari Manager reports to Pet Camp’s General Manager and works closely with managers across Pet Camp’s other San Francisco locations. What You’ll Do Lead and Develop the Cat Safari Team Recruit, hire, onboard, train, schedule, and supervise Cat Safari counselors. Set daily priorities and direct the work of the team. Coach employees and address performance, attendance, and training concerns. Conduct and document employee reviews and ongoing feedback. Review and approve timecards and help ensure compliance with meal and rest period requirements. Administer corrective action when necessary. Manage Cat Safari workers’ compensation matters in coordination with the General Manager and insurance carrier. Oversee Camper Care and Daily Operations Ensure that every cat camper receives safe, attentive, and individualized care. Oversee feeding, medication administration, weight checks, health observations, enrichment activities, and purchased services. Ensure that camper medical, behavioral, feeding, and medication information is recorded accurately and acted upon promptly. Oversee the assignment of condos and suites and manage occupancy and available capacity. Complete or oversee quality‑control reviews for incoming and departing campers. Ensure that the facility is opened and closed properly each day. Coordinate veterinary care when needed and communicate compassionately with pet parents regarding health concerns or significant developments. Follow up with first‑time clients after checkout to discuss their cat’s stay and address any concerns. Manage Scheduling, Labor, and Financial Controls Create and adjust schedules based on occupancy and operational needs. Review workload information daily and make staffing adjustments when necessary. Monitor labor hours and overtime and take appropriate steps to prevent avoidable overages. Track deposits and audit daily financial reports. Work with Reservation Specialists and other Pet Camp managers to ensure accurate reservations and efficient use of available space. Deliver an Excellent Customer Experience Own the Cat Safari customer journey from the first inquiry through post‑stay follow‑up. Ensure that pet parents understand Cat Safari’s services, policies, and limitations. Make sure client instructions are documented completely and communicated accurately to the care team. Ensure timely and professional communication by telephone, email, text, and in person. Coach counselors on Pet Camp’s customer service and communication standards. Respond to and resolve client concerns involving billing, reservations, camper care, medications, feeding, service issues, or communication. Escalate serious or unresolved concerns to the General Manager when appropriate. Maintain a Safe and Well‑Run Facility Help ensure compliance with applicable workplace safety and employment requirements. Work with the General Manager to maintain Cat Safari’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Emergency Action Plan, Safety Data Sheet binder, and related records. Ensure that required employee training is completed and documented. Conduct weekly inspections of the facility, equipment, furnishings, and camper areas. Identify maintenance concerns, complete minor repairs when appropriate, and coordinate outside repairs when needed. Maintain adequate supplies, inventory, and current vendor and repair information. Grow the Business Meet established performance goals related to occupancy, enrichment activities, positive reviews, labor management, and avoidable injuries. Identify opportunities to improve services, increase revenue, and enhance the client experience. Develop and manage new revenue opportunities and profit centers. Participate in Pet Camp management meetings and bring forward ideas for improving operations. Support community events, referral‑partner visits, and other outbound marketing efforts. Work with Pet Camp’s marketing team to promote Cat Safari’s services and unique cat‑only environment. What We’re Looking For The successful candidate will be an experienced cat‑care leader who can both run daily operations and grow Cat Safari as a business. Required Experience Minimum 5 years of true management experience leading a team (hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, performance management), not just shift lead or key‑holder responsibilities. Professional experience working with cats in a boarding, veterinary, shelter, or other feline‑focused environment, including handling, administering medications, and monitoring health and behavior. Proven track record of independently running a location, department, or business unit, including staffing, labor management, and service quality. Experience using reports, spreadsheets, and operational data to make decisions about scheduling, workload, and financial performance. Required Skills and Qualities Deep, practical understanding of feline health, behavior, stress signals, and safe handling techniques. Strong, confident people leadership: able to set expectations, give direct feedback, hold the team accountable, and still maintain morale. Excellent judgment under pressure and the ability to prioritize when many things are happening at once. Clear, professional, and compassionate communication with pet parents and team members—in person, by phone, email, and text. High personal reliability and ownership mindset—treats the facility as if it were their own business. Comfortable working on‑site, including some weekends and holidays based on business needs. Preferred Background Management experience in pet boarding, veterinary hospitals, shelters, or other animal‑care organizations. Experience growing revenue through occupancy, add‑on services, enrichment, or new offerings. Familiarity with workplace safety programs and regulatory requirements in a pet‑care or healthcare‑like setting. Compensation The base salary for this position is $70,304 per year. The Cat Safari Manager may earn quarterly performance bonuses of up to $2,500 per quarter, for a maximum potential annual bonus of $10,000. Quarterly bonuses are based on five performance areas: Occupancy Add‑on activities and enrichment services Positive customer reviews Workload and labor management Avoidable employee injuries Each performance area is worth up to $500 per quarter. The manager may earn all, some, or none of the available bonus components in each quarter.
