Description:
Unit: Family Birth Center

Number of beds: 3 Rooms

Crossover to MedSurg if full

Certifications required: BLS, NRP, ACLS, Advanced AWHONN

Ratios: 1 to 1 or 1 to 4

Charting system: Cerner

Charge Nurse: Yes

Nurse Aides: No

Holidays: Work in permanent staff rotation

Scrub color: Ceil Blue

Tele: No

Vents: No

IV Team: No

Respiratory Therapy available 24/7

Pharmacy not available 24/7

Floating: Help out primarily in MedMed for tasking

Floor specific orientation: At least 2 days per unit that nurses will be floating to, based on experience and comfort level

Common diagnoses / Types of patients: L&D

Additional Notes: 150-175 births per year

Could be the only L&D nurse on site

A second L&D nurse will be on call

During C-sections, responsible for taking care of the baby with assistance from Respiratory Therapy and anesthesia

Patients 36 weeks and less are usually transferred to another facility or life-flighted

Cancellation Policy: Client can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment, 3 shifts for assignments that are less than 13 weeks.
