The CRU provides a multi-disciplinary approach to care for individuals who have been found incompetent to proceed in legal proceedings due to mental illness.As a Psychiatrist at MPC, you will provide comprehensive, patient-centered, and recovery- focused treatments to individuals with mental health symptoms 18 years of age or older; including:• Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments and patient admissions• Overseeing an average caseload of 8 - 10 individuals• Creating treatment plans including medication management• Identifying and treating psychiatric symptoms that impair competency• Restoring the patient’s competency-related abilities, improving understanding of the legal process and legal knowledge, assisting counsel in their own defense, and making informed decisions related to their case• Providing competency-focused psychoeducation• Preparing timely clinical documentation necessary to facilitate restoration and legal proceedingsAbout MPC:MPC is a comprehensive, community-based mental health facility serving individuals who are 18 years or older, from the Manhattan and Greater NYC Region. MPC’s focus on evidence-based, person-centered, and culturally sensitive treatment helps their patient achieve their recovery goals. Minimum Qualifications : Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program if they have:Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.ORCandidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
