Open Source Software Engineer for AI Training [Remote]

Role Overview

Contribute your open-source engineering expertise to AI training work that tests and improves software development capabilities. You will create, solve, review, and validate challenging engineering tasks across front-end and back-end systems, including translating complete code builds between programming languages.

Key Responsibilities

• Explore and quickly understand unfamiliar software repositories.
• Implement, modify, and debug front-end and back-end components.
• Trace data flow and execution across interfaces, services, libraries, APIs, databases, and external dependencies.
• Reproduce software issues, determine root causes, and implement fixes that follow the project architecture and contribution standards.
• Write unit, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests.
• Create, solve, review, and validate software-engineering tasks.
• Review AI-generated patches for correctness, completeness, security, and maintainability.

Qualifications

• Public or otherwise verifiable GitHub profile.
• Meaningful ownership of, or contributions to, one or more open-source repositories. Contributions must demonstrate substantive engineering work, not only documentation edits, dependency updates, formatting changes, or minor typo fixes.
• Ability to discuss repositories, pull requests, issues, and code you personally authored.
• Strong experience in front-end, back-end, full-stack, systems, developer tooling, infrastructure, or another substantial technical area.
• Experience working in multiple programming languages and modifying unfamiliar codebases.
• Relevant languages include TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Java, Go, Rust, C++, C#, Ruby, PHP, and other languages used in substantial open-source projects. Python 3, Java, Rust fundamentals, C++, TypeScript, and Go are particularly relevant.

Work Terms

• Global, fully remote independent contractor engagement.
• Approximately 15 hours per week.
• Flexible schedule, with control over work hours and days, including weekends if needed.
• Roles are typically filled within 48 hours. Selected candidates should be ready to begin immediately and complete their first tasks within 24 to 48 hours after onboarding.
• Apply by completing the role application and screening questions, followed by an approximately 30-minute AI interview and hiring-manager review.

Compensation

• Advertised rate: $100 to $150 per hour.
• Compensation is output-based and paid per task that meets project specifications. Task completion time varies by experience and workflow.
