VDOT Construction Inspector

Dewberry is currently seeking Construction Inspectors to work on highway, bridge, and utility projects in the Northern Virginia area and is open to sit at any of our Virginia locations. The Construction Inspector function is to monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structures, and bridge construction projects of moderate to considerable complexity. Job Location: Virginia Beach, VA Category: Construction Responsibilities Monitor operations to ensure contractor compliance with plans, contract terms, and specifications. Coordinate and schedule various phases of construction inspection with the contractor, DOT representatives, and other agencies. Review and monitor the contractor's plan of operation including phasing and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans. Advise contractors of violations and review and recommend approval of corrective measures. Identify necessary changes to construction plans to meet field conditions. Make field measurements of pay items and conduct materials testing. Observe and monitor contractor's construction equipment. Maintain and review comprehensive project records including daily diaries, materials notebooks, as-built plans, pay quantity records, progress schedules, work orders, and monthly estimates. Successful candidates will be authorized to obtain all VDOT inspection and materials testing certifications at no cost to the employee. Required Skills & Experience Minimum 3 years of experience. Civil construction inspection or related construction experience. Working skill in operating computer equipment, software programs, and field inspection equipment. Ability to read and interpret roadway and bridge plans and contract specifications. Ability to drive assigned and/or personal vehicles within roadways and project sites to perform construction inspection activities. Equal Opportunity Statement
