Job Title: Critical Care Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Critical Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 1845-0715 Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Valid professional nursing license Certifications: Valid BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association Must-Have: Verification of suicide training Description: Critical Care Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Critical Care Nurses include consultations and coordination with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. They prepare and administer medications through various routes and record them accordingly. They report adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with relevant policies. They provide basic bedside care and initiate patient education plans as prescribed by physicians. They teach patients and significant others how to manage their illnesses or injuries by explaining post-treatment home care needs, dietary/nutritional/exercise programs, self-administration of medication, and rehabilitation. They record patients' medical information and vital signs accurately and concisely. They order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions. They take samples for lab work, order prescribed lab work, and evaluate and interpret lab reports. They prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatment of patients. They respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocols. They monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients and interpret and record electronic displays from various monitoring devices. They monitor catheters, leads, and tubing for proper placement and functioning. They initiate corrective actions whenever monitoring or life support equipment indicates adverse symptomatology.
