The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.* Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position. ***The first review of applications will be on 10/23/2026.***We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Maintenance Specialist I to join our Instrumentation Team. In this entry-level role, you will work alongside experienced technicians and engineers to support the installation, calibration, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of industrial process control systems, field instruments (such as flow, pressure, level, and temperature transmitters), and automated control loops. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in electrical, electronic, or instrumentation fundamentals, a high mechanical aptitude, and an eagerness to learn complex SCADA, PLC, and industrial automation environments. Work assignments may vary depending on the department’s need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor. * Performs repairs and routine maintenance of industrial wastewater pumps, pumping systems, industrial electrical systems, instrumentation, and power generating engines;* Assists Wastewater Mechanics, Instrumentation Specialists, and Trades Maintenance Specialists and Technicians in non-routine maintenance, repairs and construction of assigned facilities and systems;* Assists Wastewater Mechanics in the repair and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities and wastewater conveyance systems;* Assists other journey-level trade workers, such as painters, welders, electricians, and instrumentation technicians;* Assists specialists/technicians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of specialized equipment or controls;* Lifts and moves heavy materials, tools, and supplies;* Uses and maintains safety and personal protective equipment;* Performs operator-level maintenance, servicing and adjustments of common tools and equipment;* Performs worksite clean-up following completion of jobs. **Minimum Qualifications:** **One year of experience working in industrial mechanical maintenance and repair, pumping systems, instrumentation, process control, electrical systems or power generation engine maintenance. (Work experience limited to automotive, truck or heavy equipment maintenance is not qualifying experience.** **(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)** **OR:** **One year of experience with Pima County as a Maintenance Mechanic, Utility Service Worker I, Trades Maintenance Helper or Trades Maintenance Technician in other than automotive, truck or heavy equipment repair and/or maintenance.** **Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the \"Education\" and \"Work Experience\" sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write \"see resume\" on your application.** **Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):** * Minimum one (1) year experience with instrumentation, including installation, calibration, repair and routine maintenance of pressure, level measurement, flow meter, automated sampling, and chemical analyzer systems.* Minimum one (1) year experience with industrial mechanical equipment, performing repairs and routine maintenance of industrial equipment.* Minimum one (1) year experience obtaining and analyzing process samples, determining calibration requirements and performing calibration of analyzer systems.* Minimum one (1) year experience using digital multimeters or process meters.* Minimum one (1) year experience in fabrication of control panels and cabinetry.* Minimum one (1) year experience maintaining work history for maintenance and preventative maintenance activity logs and computer tracking software.* Minimum one (1) year experience interpreting blueprints, schematics, and diagrams during maintenance activities. **Selection Procedure:** **Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.** **Supplemental Information:** Licenses and Certificates: **Valid driver license is required at time of application.**Valid**AZ** driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record. Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Some positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies, due to the need for access to County Attorney and Court facilities, records, and communication systems. **This position will require a post-job offer physical and/or drug screen**. **Pima County determines whether a position is eligible for visa sponsorship at the time of recruitment. Eligibility is based on the requirements of the position and applicable laws and regulations. Not all positions with Pima County are eligible for visa sponsorship.** Physical/Sensory Requirements: Constantly operates and inspects mechanical equipment. Constantly positions self to use, inspect, clean or repair tools and machinery. Constantly observes details at close range. Frequently required to exchange accurate information. Frequently remains in a stationary position. Frequently moves tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Frequently operates a motor vehicle or golf cart safely and legally, in accordance with applicable state and federal transportation laws. Occasionally moves tools and equipment weighing up to 75 lbs. Occasionally ascends/descends machinery and equipment to repair/service. Frequently ascending and descending ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below-grade work platforms and job sites. Frequently required to lift, push or pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Action Activity - bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, squatting, stooping; Motion Activity - grasping; Hearing Activity - in a noisy areas, on a radio, behind themselves, equipment alarms; Speaking Activity - in person, on the phone, on the radio; Vision - operate a motor vehicle, may be required to get a CDL, operate a forklift/power industrial equipment, distinguish colors, have depth perception and peripheral vision. Working Conditions: Some positions may be required to go on an on-call rotation. Constantly exposed to loud noise levels. Constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to mechanical oils, vibration and risk of electrical shock. Working with or in the presence of obnoxious odors. Working with noxious or potentially hazardous chemicals, compounds or products. Constantly exposed to extreme heat. Occasionally confine space entry. Employees may be exposed to various weather conditions. Walking on uneven/slippery surfaces.
