About the Role: The Director of Lab is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing all laboratory operations to ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. This role involves strategic planning, resource management, and the implementation of innovative technologies to advance laboratory capabilities. The Director will lead a multidisciplinary team, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes continuous improvement and professional development. They will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices, maintaining accreditation and certifications. Ultimately, the Director of Lab drives the lab’s mission to deliver accurate, timely, and reliable results that support organizational goals and scientific advancement. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline such as Biology, Chemistry, or Medical Technology. At least 7 years of progressive experience in laboratory management or leadership roles. Strong knowledge of laboratory regulations, quality standards, and safety protocols. Proven ability to manage teams and complex projects effectively. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree or higher in a related field. Certification as a Laboratory Director (e.g., ASCP, CLS, or equivalent). Experience with advanced laboratory information management systems (LIMS). Background in clinical or research laboratory environments. Demonstrated success in implementing innovative laboratory technologies and processes. Responsibilities: Develop and execute strategic plans for laboratory operations aligned with organizational objectives. Manage daily lab activities, including workflow optimization, quality control, and safety protocols. Lead, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff to promote professional growth and high performance. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory standards, including OSHA, CLIA, and CAP. Oversee budgeting, procurement, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support research, development, and clinical initiatives. Implement and monitor quality assurance programs to maintain accuracy and reliability of lab results. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and innovation. Prepare and present reports on laboratory performance, challenges, and opportunities to senior management. Skills: The Director of Lab utilizes leadership and management skills daily to guide and inspire laboratory personnel, ensuring cohesive teamwork and high morale. Analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for interpreting complex data, troubleshooting operational issues, and driving quality improvements. Communication skills are critical for effectively liaising with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies, as well as for reporting to senior leadership. Technical proficiency with laboratory equipment and information systems supports informed decision-making and operational oversight.
