Job Description Heather Ridge Pet Hospital - Looking for Registered Veterinary Technician Job Summary
The Veterinary Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the highest quality of care for patients while supporting veterinarians in various medical and surgical procedures. This position is critical in enhancing the efficiency of the clinic by taking on technical tasks, allowing veterinarians to focus on diagnosing and treating animals. The Veterinary Technician works collaboratively with the entire veterinary team to provide compassionate care and exceptional service to our clients and their pets.

Client Interaction

• Manage client communications, including scheduling appointments, discussing estimates and treatment plans, and providing follow-up care instructions.
• Conduct client callbacks, respond to inquiries, and assist in resolving any concerns or complaints with tact and professionalism.
Surgical Assistance
• Prepare animals for surgery, including shaving surgical areas, placing IV catheters, and setting up surgical instruments and equipment.
• Assist in surgical procedures, maintain surgical instruments, and ensure the surgery suite is clean and sterilized according to hospital protocols.
• Monitor patients during surgery, including anesthesia administration and post-operative care.
Laboratory and Pharmacy Management
• Collect and process laboratory samples, perform routine diagnostic tests, and maintain accurate records of all test results.
• Dispense and accurately label prescriptions as instructed by the veterinarian, ensuring compliance with all legal and safety regulations.
• Maintain inventory of pharmaceuticals, supplies, and equipment, ensuring that all necessary items are stocked and ready for use.
Hospital Operations
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including examination rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites.
• Follow all OSHA and hospital safety protocols, including proper disposal of hazardous materials and adherence to infection control procedures.
• Participate in inventory management, including logging controlled substances, unpacking deliveries, and restocking supplies.
Professional Development
• Stay current with veterinary practices and technologies through continuing education opportunities and professional networking.

Skills and Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate's degree from an accredited Veterinary Technology program is required.
- Certification: Certification as a Veterinary Technician; Fear Free certification is a plus.
- Experience: At least 1 year of relevant experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in medical and laboratory procedures, knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, and familiarity with diagnostic equipment.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to educate and interact effectively with clients and team members.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and handle animals up to 45 lbs., perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, and withstand the physical demands of a veterinary environment.
