ICU/CVICU Bridge RN Program

Are you an experienced acute care RN ready to take the leap into critical care? The ICU/CVICU Transitional Bridge Program at George Washington University Hospital is offering an opportunity to transition into our high-acuity ICU and CVICU units ahead of schedule! Structured, immersive training tailored for acute care nurses stepping into critical care. Our ICU Units at GW Hospital:

• Medical ICU (MICU): High-complexity patients requiring advanced critical care interventions.
• Surgical ICU (SICU): Specializing in trauma, neuro, and post-operative intensive care.
• Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU): Advanced cardiac support including open-heart surgery recovery and ECMO therapy.

Responsibilities:

• Patient Care: Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the CVICU/CTICU, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and implementing physician orders.
• Critical Thinking: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team. Demonstrate critical thinking skills in managing complex medical and surgical conditions.
• Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
• Monitoring: Utilize advanced monitoring equipment to assess and interpret cardiac rhythms, hemodynamic parameters, and other relevant data. Respond promptly to changes in patient status.
• Patient and Family Education: Provide comprehensive education to patients and their families regarding postoperative care, medications, and potential complications. Offer emotional support and guidance during the recovery process.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
• Quality Improvement: Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and contribute to the continuous improvement of nursing practices within the CVICU/CTICU.

Who Should Apply? Minimum 18 months of acute care RN experience. IMC, progressive care, cardiovascular, stepdown settings preferred. A passion for critical care nursing and career growth in an elite academic hospital.
