TEACHING ASSISTANT

This position is limited term for up to 12 months. It may be extended up to an additional 12 months.
Under the direction of the Eary Childhood Education (ECE) Principal, the Teaching Assistant assists classroom teachers in the conduct of lessons, instructional programs, and other classroom activities, including program and curriculum presentation to students, administration and correction of tests and related classroom activities; tutors students; attends to children's physical needs in the classroom, including toilleting needs; assists in supervising children on campus and on educational field trips; confers as needed with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs; files and stores materials as directed; and does other related work.

Working Conditions


Subject to fingerprinting and criminal record clearance by the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation and Tuberculosis clearance. This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.

TEACHING ASSISTANT, SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF $20.96 - $26.24 *Plus a Bilingual Pay differential of $1.15 per hour, and a Recruitment and Retention differential of 10% of the base hourly rate, only for the 10-months of the regular school year. **Effective July 1, 2025, this classification is subject to Personnel Leave Program 2025. This will result in a 3% reduction in pay from salary above.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Additional Salary Information


Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for PLP 2025 pro-rated leave credits, based upon the number of hours worked.
