This role focuses on independently troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of plastics manufacturing equipment. You will perform electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical maintenance, including fabricating parts and equipment when needed. Using both hands-on tools and a laptop-based diagnostic system, you will ensure machines run safely, efficiently, and reliably in a high-volume production environment.

Responsibilities

• Independently troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair maintenance issues on plastics manufacturing machinery.

• Perform mechanical work such as replacing and repacking bearings, swapping out pumps and motors, replacing rollers and gears, and attaching machine parts.

• Carry out electrical tasks including wiring machines, checking voltage and faults, and replacing and troubleshooting photo eyes, lasers, and switches.

• Handle hydraulic and pneumatic maintenance by changing and rebuilding cylinders, replacing seals, and installing or replacing cylinders and solenoids.

• Use a laptop and machine diagnostic software to identify and resolve equipment faults, similar to using a code reader on a vehicle.

• Fabricate equipment or parts as needed using welders, cutting torches, and shop tools.

• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

• Work safely and consistently follow facility safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.

• Collaborate with production staff to understand machine issues and prioritize repairs to support manufacturing output.

• Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage to maintain accurate equipment records.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting.

• Hands-on experience with machine mechanics, including bearings, pumps, motors, rollers, gears, and other mechanical components.

• Practical electrical maintenance skills, including machine wiring, voltage and fault checking, and troubleshooting photo eyes, lasers, and switches.

• Hydraulic and pneumatic repair experience, including changing and rebuilding cylinders and replacing seals, cylinders, and solenoids.

• Ability to use a laptop and diagnostic tools to identify machine faults.

• Proficiency with common shop tools, including welders, cutting torches, and basic metalworking equipment.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

• Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.

• Commitment to safety and adherence to facility safety protocols.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Background as a maintenance technician, millwright, or similar role in an industrial environment.

• Experience working with electric motors and related equipment.

• Exposure to food-grade or clean manufacturing processes is beneficial.

• Comfort working with both electrical and mechanical systems on complex machinery.

• Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and basic technical documentation.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large manufacturing facility located in an industrial park, where the environment is consistently loud and can be somewhat dusty. Each shift typically includes around 20 team members, creating a busy but manageable production atmosphere. Steel-toed boots, safety glasses, and ear plugs are required as part of the dress code to ensure safety on the floor. The facility operates rotating day and night shifts; for example, one common pattern involves working Monday and Tuesday, having Wednesday and Thursday off, then working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, followed by a week with Monday and Tuesday off and working Wednesday and Thursday. Day shifts run approximately from 5:45 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. New hires train on the day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, until they are familiar with the machines and processes, after which they transition to their regular rotating shift. The environment emphasizes safety, reliability, and the ability to handle long shifts in a high-production setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fargo, ND.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr.
