The Occupational Therapy Assistant program at Austin Community College is committed to providing an educational program to prepare students to become competent, socially responsible, contributing entry-level occupational therapy assistants. The program will serve the Austin and surrounding communities by educating students to provide occupational therapy services to complex and multicultural populations. The program is committed to encouraging contributions to the advancement of the profession of occupational therapy. The Austin Community College Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education and boasts a 10-year 100% pass rate on the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy. Principal Responsibilities and Duties- Provides leadership in developing, evaluating, and maintaining a curriculum that responds to community needs, prepares students for success, and meets the stated requirements of THECB, SACSCOC, and other accrediting bodies.
- Develops and maintains the departmental budget and instructional supplies.
- Supervise, hire, coach, and evaluate faculty in alignment with College policies and employment laws.
- Ensure that departmental decision-making is informed by data and involves collaboration with key stakeholders within the department and collegewide as necessary
- Develop and approve the course schedule, as well as make faculty assignments, and maintain faculty eligibility.
- Prepare and teach courses in the field of Occupational Therapy to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.
- Participate actively in departmental responsibilities and departmental governance, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, and other departmental activities.
- Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations, using data for closing gaps in program completion.
- Serve as a mentor to students and faculty in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner that does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
- Support professional development and research-related activities to remain current in the field and within education.
- Lead and support division and department goals through active and collegial engagement in decision-making and unit-level planning.
- Serve on collegewide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Technology
- Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
- Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.)

- Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
- Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
- Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.

Required Education
In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and Accreditation Council of Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) requirements:
- Hold a minimum of a master's degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by the USDE
Required Work Experience
In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and Accreditation Council of Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) requirements:
- Have 5 years of documented non-teaching experience in the field of occupational therapy.
Preferred Work Experience
- 3 years of postsecondary teaching experience in the field of occupational therapy
Required Licensure:
In accordance with Accreditation Council of Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) requirements:
- Faculty who are occupational therapy practitioners and teaching occupational therapy content must be currently licensed or otherwise regulated in the state or jurisdiction as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant in the United States jurisdiction.

- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to maintain an established schedule, including evenings and weekends, including possible multiple campus locations that may vary by semester.
