Assistant Softball Coach Job no: 494974 Work type: Administrative (Full Time) Location: Marion, IN Categories: Athletics Reporting Relationship: Head Softball Coach Department: Intercollegiate Athletics - IWU Marion Campus Location: Recreation & Wellness Center - Marion, IN Job Title: Assistant Softball Coach Summary of Position: The Assistant Softball Coach must be committed to the Lordship of Christ, actively practicing spiritual disciplines, and cultivating a ministry mindset toward student‑athletes. The primary responsibility is to lead recruiting for the IWU Softball program, building relationships with high‑school and club programs in Indiana and surrounding states and developing a recruitment plan aligned with the team’s goals. The coach will also provide expertise in player development, instructing in a specialty area, and coordinate scheduling, travel, and event management. Frequent verbal, written, and electronic communication with stakeholders is required. The coaching philosophy embraces the “Both/And” mentality, pursuing athletic excellence and discipleship simultaneously. Duties and Responsibilities Lead efforts to recruit prospective student‑athletes. Assist with practice schedules, home competitions, team travel, and event management. Coordinate recruitment and travel logistics. Maintain professional communication, time management, and quality standards. Show flexibility in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment. Secure the ability to drive a 15‑passenger van. Help with meet‑day management and perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Strong Christian commitment aligned with the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement. College‑level coaching experience, preferably with recruiting, marketing, scheduling, equipment budgeting/management, and facility care. Demonstrated ability to mentor and motivate student‑athletes. Creative, innovative, and organized with strong communication and confrontation skills. Affiliation with the Wesleyan Church’s principles and lifestyle. Education Bachelor’s Degree required. Experience Relevant coaching experience, with emphasis on college‑level recruiting and program management. Required Skills Christian faith commitment and articulation of the university’s mission for athletics. Experience supervising and motivating others. Strong organizational planning and communication.
