The Lead – Engineering is responsible for coordinating daily maintenance assignments and supporting the Engineering Supervisor in directing the maintenance team. This role ensures timely completion of maintenance tasks, compliance with safety standards, and execution of preventive and corrective maintenance procedures across all property areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Coordinates maintenance activities and assigns shift work based on departmental needs.
• Performs routine and preventive maintenance across property, including casino, hotel, spa, restaurants, pools, back-of-house, and grounds.
• Operates and maintains work order systems via computer and supports documentation of work completed.
• Inspects work to ensure compliance with safety, timeliness, and quality standards.
• Leads by example and provides hands-on instruction in the safe use of tools and equipment.
• Schedules and adjusts workloads, evaluates staffing needs, and coordinates time off requests.
• Provides shift leadership in the absence of the Supervisor.
• Trains team members on proper procedures, safety, and new equipment.
• Maintains records including man-hours, incident reports, and task logs.
• Provides input for evaluations, promotions, and other personnel actions, though does not make final decisions.
• Assists with policy enforcement and adherence to departmental goals and performance standards.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Acts as lead team member on assigned shifts and oversees daily task execution.
• Provides direction and guidance to engineering staff and coordinates shift operations.
• Assumes supervisory responsibilities when designated by Supervisor or in their absence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong working knowledge of building maintenance operations including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and landscaping.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and building codes.
• Knowledge of vehicle operations and safety procedures.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
• Ability to perform and supervise a variety of skilled maintenance functions.
• Must demonstrate discretion and professionalism, especially regarding confidential information.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Technical certification or vocational training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a related trade preferred.
• Associate’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Maintenance, or a related field is a plus.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering, facilities maintenance, or skilled trades required.
• At least 2 years of experience in a lead or senior technician role.
• Advanced knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
• Experience coordinating daily work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, and minor projects.
• Skilled in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance with minimal supervision.
• Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and building automation systems (BAS).
• Prior experience in a resort, hotel, casino, or other 24/7 operational environment strongly preferred.
• Ability to mentor and direct junior engineering staff.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests.

• Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with engineering staff, supervisors, contractors, and other departments in person and over radio; responsible for relaying assignments, providing guidance, and reporting maintenance or safety concerns accurately.
• Lifting and Carrying: Frequently lifts, carries, and moves tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds; may assist with transport or setup of heavier items using carts or mechanical aids.
• Manual Dexterity: Regularly uses hands and fingers to operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic instruments, and control systems; must be able to perform precise mechanical tasks with safety and efficiency.
• Mobility: Frequently walks, climbs ladders, bends, kneels, crouches, and crawls through mechanical spaces, rooftops, and facility infrastructure areas; must be able to respond quickly to on-site issues.
• Stationary Work: Occasionally remains seated for administrative duties including reviewing work orders, updating logs, and completing reports.
• Tool Operation: Regular use of HVAC systems, electrical and plumbing tools, testing devices, ladders, lifts, and computerized maintenance systems; must ensure proper usage, maintenance, and storage of tools by self and team.
• Visual Acuity: Requires clear near and far vision to read schematics, inspect equipment, evaluate safety conditions, and monitor control panels or gauges; must detect early signs of wear or malfunction.
• Working Conditions: Routinely operates in indoor and outdoor environments, including rooftops, mechanical rooms, and confined spaces; exposed to loud noise, extreme temperatures, electrical systems, moving equipment, hazardous materials, and a smoking environment near or within public and operational areas.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.

WORKING HOURS:

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
