HR Manager, Multi-Site Field Workforce (Hands-On Payroll), Doer Now With a Real Path to Strategic HR

Pave Talent is hiring on behalf of our client, a commercial landscaping company serving the Dallas-Fort Worth area and Houston, generating roughly $70 million in revenue across four locations. Founded more than 40 years ago and still run day to day by the family that built it, the business was recently acquired by a growing multi-state landscape platform now approaching $200 million in revenue with a stated goal of doubling by 2031. Tenure here runs long: 20-plus-year careers are common, and several branch managers started on a crew. Ideal Candidate You are genuinely fine doing the clerical groundwork now, timecard corrections, payroll runs, walking the yard, because you know it is what earns the bigger seat later You want to be THE HR leader for a region, with a Vice President of HR to lean on but nobody else standing between you and the work You are energized by building what does not exist yet: documented training, written procedures, a learning management system (LMS) from a blank page You have the patience and credibility to carry a long-tenured, family-business culture through new corporate systems, because more of that change is coming as the platform keeps acquiring If you want to walk into a fully strategic seat on day one with a team executing under you, this is not that job yet, though the company is direct that it is the direction the seat is heading. The company's leadership has told us directly that as its Texas footprint grows through acquisition, the HR function grows with it, and this seat is the one they expect to lead that expansion. Internal transfer across the platform's other regions is also genuinely available for the right person down the line. Responsibilities Process biweekly payroll end to end for 400 plus employees, partnering with the finance team on the back end Finish integrating a Human Resources Information System (HRIS) platform that went live earlier this year, including syncing it with the job-costing system the field runs on Launch a time and attendance attestation project so an 85% hourly, largely Spanish-speaking field workforce clocks and attests its own time for the first time Build a learning management system (LMS) from scratch: run the training intake, find the gaps, write the content, and deliver it Own employee relations, investigations, and corrective action for the region, and oversee I-9 employment eligibility verification, E-Verify, and leave of absence administration across all four sites Right now the job leans heavily doer, not advisor. The hiring manager was direct about it: "it's a smaller organization, so they don't have the luxury to really take more of a strategic type of role, they have to be a doer." Expect payroll and hands-on system building to take up most of your week in year one, easing as the automation you help build takes over. Requirements Hands-on payroll processing experience, meaning you personally execute the run, not just review or approve it At least 5 years of progressive HR generalist experience, with real depth in employee relations and HR operations Multi-site HR experience supporting an hourly, blue-collar workforce in the $18 to $30 per hour range Able to work fully onsite, Monday through Friday, at a location south of Fort Worth, Texas Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship Bilingual English and Spanish; roughly 90% of the field team speaks Spanish, so this is a real differentiator, though not required Background in landscaping, construction, manufacturing, or warehouse and distribution Experience running or supporting an HRIS implementation; Paylocity is a plus, ADP or a comparable system is fine Experience building training content, standard operating procedures, or an LMS from scratch This is a fully onsite role based near Alvarado, Texas, south of Fort Worth, with regular time at two additional Dallas-Fort Worth branches and travel to Houston one to two times a quarter.
