Department Summary
The College of Public Affairs and Health Sciences (PAHS) at the University of North Texas prepares graduates to address complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, exercise physiology and urban design.
We have eight academic departments with undergraduate and graduate programs, the Kristin Farmer Autism Center, the Center for Public Management, the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, the UNT Work Inclusion and Supported Employment (UNTWISE) program, UNT ELEVAR, and several professional development and clinical training programs to facilitate careers to address a global society. Located within PAHS, the Department of Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology (ASLP) provides the finest graduate professional education in both speech-language pathology and audiology while maintaining an excellent undergraduate degree. The program stresses excellence in teaching, research, and service by its faculty and students. As a component of the educational program, the department operates the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, which offers professional services to members of our campus community and the general public for the purpose of providing clinical training for students. The Center offers state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, and hearing disorders.Position Overview
This position is responsible for the supervision of clinical assessment and treatment of Speech-Language Pathology graduate student clinicians, in addition to the provision of direct assessment and treatment of clinical clients (during semester breaks and/or other times during the work week, as assigned when students are not present). Direct services will be relayed via telepractice or in person in the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, based on each clients' needs. It is expected that direct services will reflect state of the art, evidence-based clinical practices. Supervision of graduate student clinicians is performed autonomously, under the Clinical Directors general direction regarding established policies and procedures of the UNT clinic and programmatic expectations of student clinicians. The supervisor determines specific clinical objectives and treatment plans for each client and guides student clinicians towards achieving evidence-based standards of clinical practice. The supervisor is responsible for guiding and mentoring clinical students in their development of assessment and treatment abilities, clinical paperwork and reporting, and implementation of state of the art, evidence-based assessment and treatment practices. The supervisor independently plans and carries out clinical assignments, resolves conflicts, coordinates student activities and clinical expectations, and stays informed about clinical policy.
