Speech-Language Pathologist

POSITION PURPOSE The Rehabilitation Services Staff Speech-Language Pathologist provides evaluation and treatment of hospital patients in a range of specialty programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participates in their resolution. 2. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to Chelsea Hospital. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. 3. Maintains knowledge to perform the duties of the job. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management. 4. Demonstrates self-directed learning. 5. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Trinity Health. 6. Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrates unit/area competencies. 7. Identifies and assists in resolution of problems related to safety, sanitation and maintenance of the environment. 8. Practices effective communication in all interactions (patient, visitor, co-worker, etc.) 9. Promotes a positive work environment by demonstrating teamwork. 10. Demonstrates competency with individualized assessment of patients using a wide variety of assessment measures and procedures. 11. Provides a thorough speech therapy evaluation and creates an appropriate plan of care based on the patient deficits. 12. Formulates individualized, age specific, therapy goals based upon assessment results and patient needs. 13. Implements patient care in a manner consistent with the therapy goals and the changing needs of the patient using a variety of therapeutic approaches. 14. Orients patients and families to the therapeutic purposes and procedures of Speech-Language Pathology, and educates them about home programs, impairments and progress. 15. Provides for own professional growth and education and contributes to staff development activities. 16. Stays up to date on all participating insurance guidelines for rehabilitation services. 17. Provides thorough documentation on each patient interaction. Documentation must be timely and include all pertinent information required by state law, accrediting agencies and 3rd party payers. 18. Completes daily charges for each patient while adhering to ethical practices per insurance guidelines for each payer. 19. Works with Manager, director and/or front desk staff to ensure schedules are managed well to achieve targeted productivity and clinic budget. OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Education: Master's Degree or higher in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program

Experience:

Certification/Licensure:

1. Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association 2. Licensed in the State of Michigan
