Nuclear Medicine Technologist - PRN

Job Overview Position: Nuclear Medicine Technologist – Per Diem (Temporary, Part Time) at University of Miami Health System. Responsibilities Obtain and examine orders for Nuclear Medicine scans to ensure procedure appropriateness. Notify supervisors of discrepancies and coordinate with physicians as needed. Identify patient service requirements and establish rapport with patients. Verify patient identification using electronic medical record and wristband. Obtain necessary consents and education prior to procedures. Operate Nuclear Medicine scanners and related equipment following prescribed radiation safety procedures, under the supervision of a Radiologist. Integrate diagnostic, laboratory, and patient history to adapt exam protocols as necessary. Adhere to Nuclear Medicine Radiopharmaceuticals and Radio Isotopes protocols to maintain quality standards. Perform complex specialized tasks, including IV access, injection of contrast, and interventional procedures as directed. Ensure aseptic technique and universal precautions are followed. Evaluate scans for technical quality, collate images, label appropriately, and transmit to PACS. Schedule patients, assist with clerical functions, and charge procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant. Dispense radiopharmaceuticals orally per approved protocols and load/operate power injectors for contrast media. Maintain accurate patient records and provide orientation and training to new technologists. Provide patient education, reduce anxieties, and answer questions. Apply age‑specific and developmental care needs, perform basic nursing functions, and initiate life‑support measures when required. Keep work area clean and stocked with supplies, provide on‑call coverage, and report unusual findings to appropriate staff. Comply with hospital, department, and regulatory guidelines, including Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH, and FDA/MQSA. Assist with day‑to‑day operations within the department. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program. Registered with NMTCB or ARRT‑N. Valid State of Florida License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. CPR and BLS certification required. One year of relevant experience preferred; new graduates from accredited schools will be considered. For locations performing Bone Mineral Density exams, must possess a valid State of Florida General Radiographer or Basic X‑Ray Machine Operator license within one year of hire.
