About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: MedSurg/Tele/Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Yes Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - At least 2 years of experience - Cerner experience preferred Description: Unit has 27 beds, which include 13 private and 14 semi-private rooms. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4 for telemetry patients and 1:5 for MedSurg patients. If a mixed team of MedSurg and Telemetry patients is present, the ratio remains 1:4. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. Patients commonly exhibit acute and chronic medical conditions. Post-surgical populations include total joints, urology, gynecology, podiatry, and general surgery. Potential stroke patients may also be treated. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Common titratable drips include heparin, but no cardiac drips are on this unit. Remote telemetry is utilized with Philips monitors. Monitor tech is stationed in another unit, and RNs are responsible for interpreting and signing off on strips. A house supervisor is available 24/7, with nurse managers during normal business hours. Charge nurses and break nurses are assigned each shift. Charge nurses may take patient assignments as needed. CNA ratios depend on the census. RT equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP as per RT and MD orders, but no vents are used. 12-hour shifts are available from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Weekend requirements are four weekend shifts in a four-week schedule. Weekend shifts are Friday and Saturday for nights, and Saturday and Sunday for days. Holiday requirements include one major and one minor holiday minimum. There is no call requirement, but staff may be placed on standby for low census. Traveling staff are the first to float. Staff can be floated to any MedSurg Tele unit or ICU for MedSurg Tele patients. Scrub color is navy blue. If wearing an undershirt, it must be navy, white, or black. Scrub jackets must also be navy without hoodies or sweatshirts. Orientation consists of one to two shifts with a preceptor. The facility has a cancellation policy where they can cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is Cerner. A BSN is not required. Trauma level is essential in this care setting. Shifts are nights, and staff are expected to float first when necessary.
