Psychiatrist (In-patient) - F/T - 40 Hours - Leadership Opportunity

Position Type: Full TimeLocation: BHI Bristol Hospital Main Campus, Bristol, CT 06010Shift: 1st Shift (Days)We have a leadership opportunity for a psychiatrist to join our 15‑bed senior behavioral health program. This role blends clinical excellence with administrative oversight, allowing you to lead a multidisciplinary team in providing direct patient care, coordination of services, and referral/consultations for the aging population.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial patient assessments and admission procedures.
• Formulate and implement individualized treatment plans.
• Schedule and review clinical and diagnostic tests as medically necessary.
• Provide timely and regular reports to primary care physicians and family members regarding patients’ medical conditions and treatment course.
• Conduct multiple daily rounds as necessary for patient acuity.
• Coordinate specialty and subspecialty consultations.
• Coordinate patient transfers to and from intensive care unit, medical/surgical unit, skilled nursing facility, or home.
• Conduct proactive discharge planning, including ensuring appropriate follow‑up with primary or specialty physicians.
• Collaborate with the case management department for discharge planning.
• Respond to admissions, management, and consults for hospital‑affiliated patients, including psychiatric patients.
• Maintain effective communication with referring primary care physicians, attending physicians, consultants, nursing, patients, and family members.
• Accurately and completely document all patient encounters in medical records and encounter forms.
• Perform any other duties reasonably related to the Agreement as requested by Hospital Administration or its designee.
• Participate in the completion of the monthly hospitalist schedule.
• Participate in compliance, in‑service, and other administrative programs related to the responsibilities of this Service.
• Cooperate with Hospital Administration in all matters related to recovery of reimbursement for professional services, including enrollment in all insurance plans designated by the Hospital and reassignment of all reimbursements for hospitalist services.
• Assist in the development and implementation of clinical pathways, protocols, core measure compliance, and other clinical effectiveness projects at the request of Hospital Administration or its designee.
• Comply with all Medical Staff Bylaws, rules, regulations, and Hospital policies and procedures as currently exist or are hereinafter amended.
• Maintain excellent working relationships with other physician members of the Psychiatry practice, support personnel, Hospital administration, and Medical Staff leadership.
• Participate in community benefit programs or other activities as requested.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree.
• Current licensure in the State of Connecticut.
• Graduated from an Accredited Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) psychiatric residency program.
• Board Certification or Board Eligibility by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
• Valid DEA registration and Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration.
• Membership in and maintenance of appropriate privileges at Bristol Hospital Medical Staff.
