ESY - Secondary Related Services, Occupational Therapist

Summary

Participates in an Extended School Year program; provides educationally relevant services to middle and high school students receiving Special Education services; student needs include support for physical, emotional, environmental, and social challenges; focuses on the development of skills and/or accommodations needed for students to participate in and benefit from school tasks, activities, roles, and routines within the school setting; facilitates student engagement in self-care, learning, productivity, leisure, and social participation; individualizes intervention strategies to support a safe and progressive environment; collaborates to promote awareness of community resources; provides guidance and professional development to staff in disability assessment, therapeutic handling, use of adaptive equipment, and supportive self-care. This position requires the flexibility to serve multiple sites on an itinerant schedule.

Qualifications

Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Board of Medicine in Occupational Therapy. Clinical experience working with middle and/or high school Special Education students in a school setting, preferred. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and practices; skill in assessment and the documentation of therapeutic activities; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to apply professional skills to a wide range of needs; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to gain the confidence and cooperation of students, families, and teachers; ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and varied skill levels in a collaborative learning environment. This position requires sufficient strength, dexterity, and mobility to perform or assist in performing all assigned tasks.
