The ideal candidate will share Fresno City College’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. For the 2021-2022 academic year, we enrolled over 34,000 students in which 60% identify as Latinx, 11% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 5% as Black/African American, 20% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% as multiracial. Fresno City College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well‑being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves. Responsibilities Provide mental health services to students, including assessment and brief mental health therapy; Provide effective short‑term therapy to students, in individual and group settings, to address mental health concerns, emotional wellness, and substance abuse issues; Provide crisis support or intervention to students in distress and conduct crisis interventions and assessments to students as needed; Case management: referral to campus and community resources to secure student basic needs and to ensure continuity of therapeutic care; Develop and maintain confidential notes and records in accordance with applicable standards of practice and federal/state laws and regulations; Develop and provide equity‑minded professional development workshops and programs to foster positive mental health that enhances students’ abilities to benefit from college including anger management, conflict resolution, domestic violence and communication skills; Conduct effective outreach and programming, and culturally relevant approaches to mental health services, including strategies and activities that foster student wellness and campus safety, such as outreach and prevention events and services; Work assignments in a variety of settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off‑campus and large group counseling sessions as needed; and Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity‑minded practices; and Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling; and A valid Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker for at least two years; and Three years of mental health counseling and crisis intervention experience. Note: A valid California Community College Credential is acceptable. Applicants who possess this credential must also meet the above requirements. Desirable Qualifications Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility; Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes; Willingness to examine and remediate one’s practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students; Related work and professional experience; Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, students with disabilities; Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high‑quality instruction and support to students; Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; Experience in crisis intervention/emergency services, and the demonstrated ability to work with a broad range of mental health challenges; Demonstrated ability to counsel utilizing professional therapeutic orientations, models, techniques, and strategies; Knowledge of principles, procedures, techniques, and trends of mental health casework, therapy, and treatment services; Knowledge of and ability to apply legal and ethical standards of licensed mental health professionals; Knowledge of current trends in mental health, public health, and social services, including State and Federal programs; Knowledge of health and emotional wellness issues impacting community college students; Well‑developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, families and other professionals as appropriate; Skills in developing and implementing effective treatment/therapy plans; and Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals. Salary and Benefits Newly hired part‑time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the salary schedule; All salary classification placements on the salary schedule will be based on education and experience (where applicable) as outlined in the salary schedule; Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
