We are seeking a Principal for the Juvenile Services Education Program (Montgomery County) to lead the academic and vocational programs, provide instructional leadership, and ensure compliance. Grade PRNC 0002 Location of Position JDS- Juvenile Services Education Program (Montgomery County), 9929 Blackwell Road, Rockville, MD 20850 Main Purpose of Job The Principal will lead and manage the Juvenile Services Education Program, ensuring the delivery of high-quality educational services to youth. Position Duties Adaptive Leadership Mobilizing Action: Guiding teams to act on and solve complex, systemic problems. Differentiating technical challenges from adaptive challenges that require collective learning and new ways of working. Strategic Situational Awareness: Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, collaboration, collegiality, and adaptability to change. Balancing Continuity and Change: Demonstrating commitment to the values and norms of the organization. Educational Leadership Curriculum Implementation: Oversee the academic and vocational program implementation. Instructional Leadership: Provide guidance and support to teachers to enhance instructional practices and student learning outcomes. Student Assessment: Monitor student progress through assessments and data analysis to ensure educational goals are met. Professional Development: Facilitate ongoing development for staff to adopt the latest educational strategies. Staff Management Hiring and Training: Lead recruitment, hiring, and training of qualified staff. Performance Evaluation: Conduct regular evaluations and provide constructive feedback and professional development opportunities. Team Collaboration: Foster a collaborative environment among staff to promote student success. Student Support Individualized Education Plans: Ensure development and implementation of IEPs for students with special needs. Student Counseling Services: Coordinate with counseling staff to provide mental health and emotional support services. Family Engagement: Engage families and guardians to support student learning and facilitate successful reintegration post release. Administrative Duties Compliance: Ensure school complies with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations regarding special education, records, instruction, teacher certifications, and transition. School Counseling Services Conduct transcript reviews, evaluate credit attainment, ensure accurate course placement, and support graduation and transition planning. Maintain working knowledge of secondary scheduling, credit requirements, and post secondary pathways. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience and 3 years in an administrative or leadership role, including at least 3 years leading special education. Hold or be eligible for Maryland State Department of Education Administrator II certification requirements. Desired or Preferred Qualifications Ability to motivate staff, students, and families around the vision of the school. Clear and effective communication skills for diverse audiences including students, staff, and families. Well organized with ability to balance competing priorities and multi task. Passion for developing staff’s instructional and leadership capacities. Leadership style that encourages teamwork and collaboration to support excellent instruction. Previous experience in an alternative or juvenile services education setting.
