Essential Duties and Responsibilities                                                                         

The Superintendent exercises direct supervision over assigned projects from start to finish, providing direction, leadership, and guidance to employees and subcontractors, assisting them in planning, coordination and execution of their work in order to complete the project in a timely and economical manner with high standards of workmanship. Responsible for maximizing profits on assigned projects. All job site supervisors report to superintendent. All duties and responsibilities include the following, however, other duties may be assigned. This position requires a regular onsite presence at a large commercial construction project in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, approximately 90 miles from Pierre .  Candidates may reside outside the immediate area, and Flintco offers a travel package to support the project’s location and associated travel requirements

• Work with Project Manager in preparation of project schedule and budget.
• Become thoroughly familiar with the plans, specifications, contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, daily correspondence, shop drawings, and all documents related to the project.
• Select methods and acquire equipment for the project.
• Understand and enforce company safety policies and organize safety meetings with employees and supervisors.
• Employ or discharge workmen and intermediate foremen as needed to ensure safe, efficient, economical, and timely completions of the work.
• Assure accurate completion or all documentation including safety reports, payroll preparation, labor unit report.
• Conduct meetings with subordinates, subcontractors and others as appropriate in order to inform, coordinate and direct work.

• Approve or disapprove invoices and monies spent on the job, and verify coding on all invoices and requisitions.
• Instruct supervisors in job direction and company policies and procedures.
• Inspect the work of employees and subcontractors to ensure construction conforms to requirements of the Contract Documents, and the quality needed to build repeat business.
• Superintendent is specifically responsible for jobsite compliance with all federally mandated policies and laws regarding equal employment opportunity and compliance with non-discriminatory laws and regulations.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability

Prepare detailed construction projects plans, schedules and estimates.  Read and interpret construction drawings, show drawings and specifications. Calculate square footage, volumes and percentages using a personal computer or calculator.   Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.   Prepare and update project schedules, transmittals and submittals using personal computer software. Manage large groups of personnel and to accomplish desired results through subordinate levels of management with little or no supervision.

Education                   

High School diploma or GED

Experience

At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in commercial construction and management of field personnel.

The office provides a safe and healthy work environment, is adequately heated and cooled, is free from exposure and extreme conditions, has appropriate lighting and office furnishings, and is smoke-free and drug-free.  While performing the duties of this position in the fabrication shop, warehouse, maintenance shop or at a project site, the employee could be regularly exposed to any number of the following, including, but not limited to:  moving mechanical parts; moving machinery; high, precarious places (including, but not limited to, being raised several hundred feet in a bucket); close tight quarters; rough and sloped terrain; fumes or airborne particles; drilling and blasting activities; welding activities; toxic or caustic chemicals; the potential of falling rock; and outside weather conditions.  The employee may be occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is generally loud.
