Counselor - Elementary - School Year 2026-2027

Position: Counselor – Elementary Reports To: Building Principal Classification: Professional – Exempt Salary: See Compensation Plan for Administrative/Professional Pay Plan, Pay Grade 104 Days: 195 Contract: Probationary/Term (Date Revised: 11/15/2023) Primary Purpose Work with school faculty, staff, students, parents and community to plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program. Counsel students to fully develop academic, career, personal and social abilities and address special population needs. Understand dynamics required for working with at‑risk students and implement strategies to ensure success. Qualifications/Skills Master’s degree in guidance counseling. Valid Texas counseling certificate or equivalent out‑of‑state certificate. Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal and career development. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. Bilingual preferred. Two years of teaching experience. Major Duties and Responsibilities Guidance Teach campus developmental guidance curriculum consistent with district's guidance program plan and tailored to campus needs. Assist teachers in teaching guidance related curriculum. Guide students to develop education plans and career awareness. Coordinate opportunities for students to recuperate lost credits. Work with teachers on lab class expectations and procedures. Provide documentation related to 504 and Special Education accommodations. Coordinate transition and orientation for freshmen. Counseling Provide individual and small‑group counseling. Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and community personnel. Facilitate resource connections. Maintain communication systems for information sharing. Develop and maintain professional relationships. Use effective referral processes. Handle student adjustment issues and virtual course support. Classroom Management and Organization Create conducive learning environment. Manage behavior per Student Code of Conduct. Protect students, equipment and facilities. Assist in selection of instructional materials. Communication Conduct parent, student, principal and teacher conferences. Maintain professional relationships. Present information clearly. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities. Stay informed of regulations and policies. Maintain records and reports. Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees. Other Perform additional duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities None Equipment Used Computer, ACTIV Board, copy machine and audiovisual machines. Working Conditions Mental Demands Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Regular in‑person interaction with the public. Physical Demands Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desk and other classroom equipment.
