Base Pay $19.14 / Hour Employee Type FT Non-Exempt Required Degree High school Job Title Patrol Deputy Reports To Patrol Captain Benefits Medical/Dental/Vision/Life Insurance paid for employee, PERSI Retirement, Sick Leave, Vacation after 1 year, Holiday Pay, and Funeral Leave Summary Under general supervision, exercises responsibilities for the enforcement of state and local laws relating to public safety and welfare. Exercises independent judgement in dealing with dangerous or unusual situations, exercising safety practices and procedures. Works under stressful, high-risk conditions. Reports to assigned Sergeant or Lieutenant. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Take calls for service and patrol assigned areas. Investigates and reports accidents. Investigates crimes, interviews witnesses, complainants, and victims; gathers physical evidence and preserves it for court; conducts follow-up investigations as needed. Apprehends, arrests, and detains criminal suspects and law violators when necessary; follows proper procedures when making arrests. Serves warrants, summonses, subpoenas, civil and other official papers. Serves as witness in court and provides evidence as required. Checks residential and commercial property for security. Assists motorists in various situations as needed. Contacts complainants and/or victims of crimes within a reasonable period; keeps them informed of investigative progress. Investigates and reports fires or other related events; keeps bystanders out of danger; safeguards property; renders first aid in emergency situations. Prepares, processes, and/or transmits various reports as required. Records information concerning events that took place during tour of duty, and records such activity in the manner prescribed by the department. Maintains weapons and equipment in functional and presentable condition. Transports mental patients and prisoners to prescribed locations as necessary. Accounts for and transports evidence coming into custody. Answers questions asked by the general public, works with juveniles and adults; refers public to persons or agencies which can provide further assistance as required. Works under stressful, high-risk conditions. Makes decisions at crime scenes which may involve life-or-death situations; decisions are based on the safest procedures to ensure safety to individuals involved and fellow officers or rescue team members. Performs special projects as directed by the Sheriff or Patrol Captain. Watches for wanted or missing persons and lost children; administers first aid to the injured in emergency cases; reports stray animals as necessary. Attends shift meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required to remain knowledgeable of operations and promote job performance. Participates in required physical fitness activities. Maintains required level of proficiency in the use of firearms and evasive driving skills. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of The principles and techniques of modern crime prevention, investigation, apprehension, criminal identification, rules of evidence, record keeping, and all other aspects of law enforcement. The behavior of criminals and causes underlying criminality. Ability to Analyze complex police problems and adopt quick, reasonable courses of action with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances. Develop and maintain adequate written case documentation and ensure proper document flow. Work multiple cases at one time and ensure continuity and development of each case. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other public officials and the general public. Learn principles and techniques of modern crime prevention, investigation, apprehension, rules of evidence, and all other aspects of law enforcement. Read, interpret, and properly apply laws applicable to law enforcement work. Acquire skill in the use and care of firearms and the conditions under which they may be deployed. Express oneself clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. Memorize and recall detail (e.g., names, faces, incidents, identification of objects). Maintain composure and self-control under adverse conditions. Coping with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of citizens. Perform duties and maintain professional conduct, attitude and appearance that conform to strict policies and procedures. Acceptable Experience and Training / Special Qualifications Must be a certified peace officer through the Idaho POST academy or possess a certificate from another state capable of being transferred and certified in Idaho. Valid Idaho Driver’s License. Must be 21 years of age. Typical Physical Requirements Must be able to meet the POST minimum physical fitness requirements and must be able to stand, walk, and run for extended periods in the outdoor elements of all four seasons.
