Description:
Under general supervision, performs professional Occupational Therapy activities consisting of planning, evaluating, establishing, and implementing individual and group treatment activities under the direction of a physician.


Responsibilities include interpreting a physician's referral and selecting an appropriate standardized evaluation procedure.


Evaluate patients in areas such as independent living skills, occupational performance, prevocational work adjustment, educational skills, play-leisure abilities, social skills, and various psychosocial skills.


Interpret the data and develop a treatment plan involving short and long-term goals, frequency, and duration of treatment.


Assist patients in carrying out these procedures through the design and fabrication of adaptive equipment and orthotic devices, joint protection, and body mechanics.


Inform patients and families of goals and progress.


Assist with discharge planning by ordering equipment and instructing patients on home therapy plans.


May supervise students.


Performs other duties as assigned.


Required skills include knowledge of the principles and practices of professional occupational therapy and the materials and supplies utilized in the program.


Skill in organizing and instructing occupational therapy activities is essential.


Ability to interpret prescriptions related to therapy needed is required.


Good interpersonal skills are necessary for establishing effective working relationships with staff.


Ability to communicate instructions and technical information to patients is essential.


Some computer skills are also required.


Preferred skills and experience are not applicable.
