Neuro Intermediate Care Unit Rn
Play a critical role in stabilizing and advancing the recovery of patients with complex neurologic conditions in a highly specialized care environment. As an RN on 6 North in the Neuro Intermediate Care Unit you will provide hands-on care for a complex patient population requiring close observation and specialized neurologic management. The pace is steady and demanding with frequent opportunities to apply advanced assessment skills and critical thinking. You will function as a key member of a collaborative care team supporting patients as they transition from critical illness toward recovery. This role offers an engaging balance of patient interaction technical skill and clinical complexity making it a strong pathway for nurses interested in advancing within neuroscience or progressing toward ICU-level practice.
On a typical shift you will:
- Deliver comprehensive bedside care for patients requiring step-down level neurologic monitoring
- Perform frequent detailed neurologic assessments recognizing and escalating subtle changes in condition
- Manage patients across a wide range of complex neurologic diagnoses including central nervous system tumors complex spine surgery acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke endovascular interventions traumatic brain injury spinal cord injury neuromuscular diseases status epilepticus and central nervous system infections
- Collaborate closely with neurology neurosurgery and neurocritical care teams to coordinate and adjust care plans
- Administer medications and therapies requiring precision within a specialized neuro-focused environment
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans recovery expectations and long-term neurologic care needs
- Contribute to a team culture built on communication accountability and continuous clinical learning
The Neuro Intermediate Care Unit is part of a highly specialized neuroscience ecosystem that includes UVA Healths dedicated Neuro ICU and academic Department of Neurology. Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
- Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.
- Licensure/Certifications: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
Physical Demands
- Job requires standing for prolonged periods frequently traveling bending/stooping. Proficient communicative auditory and visual skills Attention to detail and ability to write legibly Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
Compensation
- New hire compensation will be determined by previous work experience education and/or experience. Onboarding requirements background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen. The pay range for this role is 39.90 - 53.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications previous work experience and/or education.
