Materials Management Specialist

Job Overview Posting Number: 18893 | Functional Title: Materials Management Specialist | Job Title: Vehicle Driver II Agency: Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) | Department: Region 1 Administration Location: AMARILLO, TX | Shift: Day | Pay Frequency: Monthly | Salary Range: $3,342.96 - $3,844.91 Key Responsibilities Assemble, repair, deliver, pick‑up, and install equipment, furniture, and other business supplies across the region. Receive, sign for, inspect and distribute packages and manage document service/copy requests. Drive state agency trucks and cargo vans to deliver large items and provide routine delivery of mail and small packages. Maintain vehicle maintenance logs, monitor vehicle records, perform minor repairs, and submit monthly vehicle reports. Operate motorized equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies, etc.) for warehouse duties and inventory management. Assist with office moves and perform minor building repairs and maintenance. Oversee contractors and vendors for moves and modular furniture installation. Serve on the Regional Disaster Deployment Team, delivering and setting up emergency equipment during disasters. Essential Job Functions Follow agency leave policy and perform duties as assigned. Plan and execute efficient delivery routes, loading/unloading, and safe cargo handling. Compile vehicle log data and submit reports to the fleet management system. Document receipt of purchased items and confirm them against purchase orders using CAFS and CAPPS. Maintain accurate records of postage, shipping, and inventory. Provide training and coaching to new hires on vehicle safety and usage. Registrations, Licensure and Certifications Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of motor vehicle operations and basic maintenance. Knowledge of State and Federal traffic rules for cargo and mail delivery. Knowledge of warehousing procedures and motorized equipment usage. Skill in operating motor vehicles, including panel trucks and cargo vans. Skill in managing multiple priorities and using Microsoft Word and Outlook. Ability to prepare accurate vehicle maintenance records and perform basic math. Ability to operate specialized equipment such as a postage meter, copier, bindery, and CAFS/CPAPs. Ability to lift, pull, push, and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to perform basic building maintenance or repair. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers, peers, and managers. Ability to travel locally and across the state, including overnight stays. Initial Screening Criteria High School diploma or GED. Effective written communication skills. Preferred: experience in shipping, receiving, sorting, and distributing furniture, supplies, or equipment. Preferred: experience operating warehouse equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, or dolly. Preferred: experience driving panel truck or cargo van, and pulling trailer. Benefits & Salary Salary: $3,342.96 – $3,844.91 per month (falls within Texas‑A‑14); current or former HHSC employees may receive higher salary.
