Chief Human Resources Officer (New York)
Planned Parenthood of Greater New York
Planned Parenthood and its affiliates are navigating one of the most challenging times in their history, including significant cuts in federal funding and sustained political attacks which threaten to jeopardize reproductive sexual health care access for countless individuals. Unfortunately, the impacts of this new reality are felt most acutely by those who are already marginalized and who too often have nowhere else to turn for care. Yet even in the face of these obstacles, PPGNY continues to rise with resilience and resolve—providing critical health services to tens of thousands of New Yorkers each year and standing as a fierce defender of equity, dignity, and human rights. This is a pivotal moment of transformation and impact; an opportunity for bold, visionary leadership to ensure that PPGNY not only withstands these challenges but emerges stronger, more innovative, and more deeply rooted in its mission than ever before.
The new Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) will follow a two-plus-year Interim CHRO and will build upon the important, foundational work already done to establish data‑informed HR strategy, systems, policies, and practices. This position will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to work in partnership across the organization to continue building a strong, intentional, inclusive, and equitable workplace culture, and to advancing PPGNY’s vital mission of achieving reproductive health equity. The CHRO will be a primary force in shaping organizational infrastructure, culture, and a working environment in which employees can thrive and, in turn, build thriving communities.
REPORTING
Reports to President & CEO Wendy Stark (she/her) . Directly supervises a team of 10, including the following direct reports: AVP Human Resources, Director, Human Resources, Senior Director of Benefits Administration. Serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team.
POSITION
The CHRO will provide strategic and dynamic leadership in support of PPGNY’s workforce and culture, with a particular emphasis on developing, implementing, and continuously improving strategies and practices to nurture an inclusive, equitable, and healthy workplace. This position is responsible for leading large‑scale, organization‑wide system design and transformation, and for managing, supporting, and empowering an experienced team of HR professionals. Working collaboratively with the CEO and Executive Leadership team, the CHRO will lead ongoing efforts to evolve a people‑centered and empowering workplace culture throughout the organization. PPGNY strives to infuse an intersectional, race(+) equity lens into its work at all levels of the organization and in its service delivery. The CHRO will work in close partnership with the Communications and Culture department and the Equity & Learning team in this endeavor; this includes partnering to build both individual staff capacity and organizational change at the enterprise level.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
You are an experienced, dynamic, and innovative leader of people, systems, and culture. You are personally and professionally invested in PPGNY’s mission of advancing bodily autonomy, health equity, gender and racial justice, and reproductive freedom. You thrive in an environment of rapid change and evolution, and one with complex cultural, political, and operational dynamics. You have a demonstrated ability to engage authentically and respectfully with people of all backgrounds and identities, and at all levels of an organization. You have a proven track record of prioritizing, delegating, and meeting deadlines on multiple, simultaneous projects and initiatives. You embrace strong, supportive management practices and bring a collaborative approach to your work. You maintain composure and effectiveness under changing conditions and can adjust to new situations without losing focus.
