Registered Nurse (RN) - Labor and Delivery

Job Overview

This position is for a challenging and fast-paced Labor and Delivery unit that requires dedicated nursing professionals. The unit handles more than 300 births per month and frequently experiences double labor assignments. Candidates must be prepared for a demanding environment with high patient flow.

Contract Information

• Contracts available for 20+ weeks, with a hard stop date of February 27, 2027.
• Working nights from 18:45 to 07:15 for three 12-hour shifts.
• RTO (Requested Time Off) is limited to a maximum of 7 days.
• Weekend shifts are required every other weekend, with a minimum of 6 shifts scheduled over a 6-week period.

Patient Population

The unit cares for obstetrical patients who are 16 weeks and greater, including those requiring high-risk antepartum and postpartum care. The birthing care unit also includes an obstetrical triage area for screening and outpatient procedures such as antenatal fetal surveillance and medication administration, as well as handling scheduled and unscheduled cesarean births.

Key Responsibilities

• Circulate during deliveries and assist in high-risk obstetric procedures.
• Perform sterile vaginal exams and provide immediate newborn care.
• Maintain patient safety and high-quality care in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience is required, with a preference for candidates with 3 or more years in a similar high-volume setting.
• First-time travelers are welcome, provided they have experience in large or high-volume environments.
• Required certifications include BCLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP.
• Experience with circulating in the operating room is strongly preferred.

Unit Details

• Daily ratios: 2:1, averaging 20 births in a 24-hour period.
• The unit is equipped with PYXIS and EPIC for medication and patient management.
• Orientation for new staff will be 24 hours.

Additional Information

This unit is particularly busy and operates at a higher acuity than what may typically be expected. Nurses should be prepared for a very demanding and fast-paced work environment. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential for success in this role.
